glue metal to plastic?
18 September, 2011, 09:31
hi there, ive had a quick search but found nowt about this, so here goes
Ive got a tm sr16 reciever, the rail has snapped off the plastic lugs at the back of the body. I am going to glue the whole rail to the top of the plastic body (not just to the lugs)
What glue would you guys recomend?

Re: glue metal to plastic?
Use a 2 part Mitre Glue (A type of Superglue that uses an Aerosol activator to start the reaction) I know from personal experience at work that a few blobs of this stuff can hold nearly 100Kg.

Interesting choice, because I'm fairly certain cyanoacrylate is pretty pants when it comes to gluing ABS plastic...

Use EPOXY. araldite is probably the best option. Get the super strong stuff. Have fun.

Well it was used to glue ABS Hangers to metal samples in our Instron tensile stress measuring Machine and more often than not the Hanger or Metal broke before the Adhesive bond gave way.

You can also try Q-bond.
Use the powder and glue in the kit and it wont break. I'v know people use it to repair threads in engine heads.

Re: glue metal to plastic?
I ended up using aroldite, beacause 1, it was easy to find, and 2, it was less than a fiver (its not being cheap, its being economical !
). It stuck realy well.
Thanx again for the info guys, much apreciated.
