  • Personal Role Radio...... (Again... YAWN!)

    Just a simple question really.
If I got one of those 16 channel Bowman replica PRR's, then purchased a real prr radio (just the radio, not the ptt, head set, antenna ect) would I be able to use the replica prr parts on the real radio, and bodge myself up a working 256 channel radio?
Has anyone tried this, or would it be an epic fail?

That's not a simple question, but it does have a simple answer....No.

(two completely different pieces of kit.)

          Actually

Real issue bowmans work on the UHF per units,
Also there is a guide on arnies forum how to make a re programming cable to convert to a 446 pmr radio,

But if you know anyone with the mil channel cable you can "enquire " about the programmable codes and pins

Do the Bowman radios have CTCSS? Without that, you only get 8 legal channels - the base frequencies of PMR446.
Then you'd have to restrict the output stage to 500mW.

Plus, are you sure they work on UHF? The only info I see definitely says HF and VHF (and you would DEFINITELY need a license to operate there). There was some passing mention of UHF, but around the 2GHz mark, not the low-UHF area around 466MHz.

Yes mate they have 16 channels, but once translated to pmr 446, only the second 8 channels are legal to use

Also the radios from banned Airsoft in hk, they are UHF, but the ones from the sorv site are 446 pre set
