overseas parts ordering

I want to order some small parts from r a tech which will amount to around 40 pounds including shipping. Does anyone know if they are likely to be intercepted by customs and are they reliable to order from. Zero one dont sell the parts i need so cant see it being a problem me mentioning on here.

Completely hit and miss mate. Ive ordered from HK loads and id say 1 out of 4-5 parcelsgets stopped and i end up paying customs on. Theyve all pretty much been in the 100-150$ bracket so no correlation there. Either way if you make a habit of it you will save yourself money.

I've ordered parts from HK and america, never had any stopped by customs I buy loads of things from overseas, and never had a parcel stopped by customs. I brought a p90 echo1 front end and cut off leaver about $60 + postage and that wasn't stopped.

I don't want to jinx it but I wasn't even aware that customs existed till I saw people moaning about them on here LOL

Completely hit and miss mate.

Seems to be this in a nutshell. I've had an order of 5 AEGs get through untouched and had separate orders for a boxmag and an Eotech get stung...

I order all sorts of things from the far East not just Airsoft and have never had a problem, the only Country I always get a battering with is the USA. They never declare stuff as "Gifts" due to their strict Customs declarations and I always end up paying Duty plus a poxy handling fee to the RM for doing sweet FA apart from sending you a Card telling me to cough up :-(

Work on the basis that what it's costing in dollars is what you'll end up paying in pounds once you've taken into account the exchange rate, shipping, vat and duty. If it's still worth ordering it from them then go ahead, if not don't bother. That way, even if it does get stopped it would still be worth the extra cost and if it doesn't it's simply a bonus.


I assume you're talking about buying direct from ratech? If so they'll be pretty reliable, or at least they were when I bought some stuff from them last year.

That's nice of them, going to all that trouble and saving you from the risk of a possible prosecution for tax evasion!

a) because customs may not believe you didn't ask for this and b) because it's an offence to import goods and not pay duty that you know you're liable for. In theory, if something gets past without duty/vat you're supposed to contact them and offer to pay the charges.

i always order from HK, make sure they send it as NORMAL AIRMAIL that takes like 10-20 days to get to you, DONT get it sent with special fast delievery as parcelforce will charge you for it and it will take longer to get to you than normal airmail, declare as a gift also, i always do and ive never had a problem.

There are restrictions now on all items over £18 that are ordered over the internet. You've got a 50/50 chance in them getting intercepted and having to pay a £13 handling fee if you use their courier service. Best to get them to send any items via airmail. It may be slower but it beats paying fees. Also if items are declared as gift and have a total of more than £30 (using parcelfarce or other couriers) they will get charges slapped on. I've recently had these problems and I will no be using courier based services for my overseas orders anymore.
