yeah... but unfortunately not every new member is a resourceful as you shadow

just think its silly how some new people keep asking the same question and they end up getting pretty much the same answer.

yea well seems alot of people lack the sense to do a bit of research before coming on a forum and expecting an easy answer on a silver platter

        Hi
I have to disagree with Highlander about all a new player needs is a big battery & a big magazine
On my 1st game (urban), I used less than 500 pellets all day
What a new player needs is a reliable weapon at a descent price
I'm looking at a L1a1 SLR as my 1st weapon (not sure which make)

Give that man a round of applause - bloody nice guns, though the real steel was a heavy old beast to carry around all day.

Re: could we PLEASE have a sticky about 'good first guns'?

A good idea, and I had consider doing this but worked out it would be a massive headache, there are way to many options, just for starters....

            Budget
            Registered / Unregistered
            Woodland / CQB
Support weapon / Sniper / ect.

Yes a lot of people recommend the JG-G36 and a large selection of users recommend TM pistols usually the 226 and 4.3, but then someone always comes up with a counter option (usually shadow).. but what suits one may not suit all

I do agree that most people dont bother to read stickys, or search the forum, and I guess as long as there is someone willing to answer the question, they never will.

              Hi
The biggest problem with this thread is the fact that we are human
Everyone of us likes something different
Your best bet is to ask people at your local site to see what they like & maybe handle the one's you like the look of. You now get the feel of the weapon
Once you have narrowed the choice then you can start asking how much & how reliable
              & work from there
My choice comes from the fact I've used the real thing

Re: could we PLEASE have a sticky about 'good first guns'?

My first gun was a JG g36c! I still have it and regularly use it. I tend to agree with shadow on this as most newbs I've met tend to start off with rentals rather than spending £xxx on something they may not like in the long term. At my local site we encourage new players to speak to other players about guns they see and might like, and every airsofter I've met loves extoling the virtues of their beloved gun, so everyone wins.

Re: could we PLEASE have a sticky about 'good first guns'?

Id agree by encouraging them to purchase a clone for their first gun. Ive watched the quality of JG products increase dramatically in the last few years, and now they seem to be nearly matching some of the higher end brands for reliability, and performance. the obvious first choice is a JG G36c, for its immense "unbreakableness", but i find most JG's perform basically the same anyway, and its up to personal preference.

Another reason for a clone as a starter is the price difference compared to a TM. If they find airsoft isnt for them, a loss of £100 compared to that of a £200 TM aint so bad.

                  Just my 2 rupees.

...although after saying all this, my first gun was a hudson grease gun, i got from my cousin

Just a thought for people who are skeptical about this thread being made and stickied. Quite simply, I've seen other forums do so, and it seems to work very well...

The thread is also left open for comments, but monitored closely, and already answered questions are ignored, or even better, deleted.

Re: could we PLEASE have a sticky about 'good first guns'?

                      Posted on another forum...

Hello and welcome to the world of Airsoft.

Ok so you have found your way here and despite your parents or partner (or both) giving you some very odd look's you have followed your convictions and here you are.

Now like most of us when we started you already know what you are doing because you have seen BlackHawk Down 100 times and your mate is in the SAS. Your pretty sure that no one has ever quite come across anyone as cool headed and alert as you and when you get your new sniper rifle you will decimate entire teams from your hide in a dead cows bottom.

Sounds ridiculous but I have heard all of those line's (the cow was a small "cough" lapse in judgment) and compared to some I have only been playing for 5 minutes.

So below is a list of what you should know what you dont know and what you should and should not do.

                      Guns.

Your here because you like guns it's ok thats why were here two! the problem is you dont own one yet so you dont know what one to buy and even if you found one you like is it any good? will it hit a finger at half a mile? can you cut a tree in half with the torrent of ammo it will push forth?

This is the reality of your new hobby.

Airsoft guns are essentially air powered smoothbore muskets. There is no rifling in the barrel no dramatic kick from recoil and no spent shell's making a graceful arc of hot brass from your weapon. Basically the internal components of your new gun fart down a tube pushing a small plastic ball forward toward your oppenent. Sounds great doesn't it eh!

Now that the bubble has burst heres the rub!

This is as close as you will get to the real thing without joining up. The guns we use look like the real thing because thats what we want otherwise we would still be playing bloody paintball. We are all attracted to the sport because we get to play with what in essence are safe real guns "real as in this isn't COD4" not real as in real! obviously.

You will no doubt want to know what am best gun or as its known "what type of M4 should I buy first" You do quite rightly assume that we as experienced players know something you do not and you fear going out into a game and getting hammered because our guns are Best and yours is nappy filling.
This is of course both correct and completely wrong. It is correct because we will not admit to anyone that the gun we choose to buy is in fact Pants and wrong because this is our fourteenth gun and we still havent found the one we like. And I am afraid this is going to happen to you two.

                      So what do you do.

Well first things first have you played yet? eh! no, oh boy. Right get yourself along to a game hire some kit and decide if you like being shot at. I recommend playing on a cold wet miserable day after a night shift with a hangover and a long walk because your car broke down, and if you still enjoyed it then this is for you.

Not put off yet! Excellent so moving on.

It Does Not Matter What Your First Gun Is. How can it matter you have never owned one, you havent even shot one yet? They are (as far as you are concerned newbie!) all the same. Airsoft guns are pretty much the same internally, they all use an electrically driven gearbox to produce a puff of air that blows a BB out of a barrel. Some do this better than others some are scenario specific and some are so close to the real thing that CO19 Will shoot you! and some are even er, well lets just say that if it says JLS anywhere on the box buy something else.

Its your first gun so are you a H&K man? or an FN fan? do you like Bullpup's? or are you an AR15 hopeless, sorry!! hopefull thats what I meant hopefull.

Look on the tinternets (they have them on computers now and this makes things much faster) re-watch your favorite movies and whatever gun makes you stand up and salute, well thats the one for you. Now at this point you think your life is complete but unfortunately it just got much much worse. Next you have to decide what make and model of gun to buy and, well actually this is a little easier than you might think as there are only two rules with this and they are.

Dont spend less than £100 and buy it in the UK.

                      There simple wasn't it.

In truth you might find the odd gun for a little under the Ton but if it has a price tag of £39.99 walk away! and because of the world money problem thingy at the moment buying direct from HK is a bad idea so Buy Blitish.

I will go out on a limb here and say that no one really makes a bad gun anymore so follow this advice and just get the one that you like the look of most. I promise you that it will shoot enough BB's far enough down range that you can go home with a smile on your face and lie about how many people you shot confident that you're sure you may have at least possibly hit one person, probably.

So incase you have completely missed the point, here is a recap.

1: Play the game first, try it out, get three games in not less than 2 months and if you are over 18 you wont have to run around carrying Shrek's gun!

2: Everyone has there own opinion on guns and what I like you may not, so honestly take my advice just get the one you like the most and get on with playing the game.

I deliberately havent recommended any guns on here. Nor have I mentioned Pistols, Shotguns, bolt action Snipers or gas operated M4 Blowback's. I havent mention the VCRA or UKARA or Upgrading your guns or whats a R.I.F. or a I.F and why does it have to be Green and whats an AEG or a GBB and a NBB. And I'm going nowhere near is Propane different from Green Gas and can I paint this Pink or the shop said its only an Air-gun so...

There are many things you are going to have to learn just like the rest of us. You could keep posting on forums until every little question in your head has been answered or (and this is the fun bit) just go out there and do it for yourself.

                      Play Safe...

frankly if a new player has the money i would recommend tm, g&p, ca etc - theres no reason they should only buy a chinese g36 or something if they can afford to start on something better

Have to agree with Evansy as well Waltzin. I've seen it before, people just vote for their favorite gun. Most people will say the gun they have is the best, even though it may be the only AEG they've ever had and haven't compared it to anything else.
