  • Ay up not another "Newbie"

    Hello Guys and Gals..

"Newbie" (It's true, but i dislike that word) airsofter here, currently living in miserable and wet surrey.
Currently 22, working as an audio visual technician in guildford. I deal with lights, sound and data for conference and live events.

I've been interested in airsoft for awhile, reading books and magazines, but nothing beats the real thing.
I enjoy collecting authentic uniforms, and have started building up a collection. I have images of these but... Let's just say I'm not one who likes to show off. In an ideal word, I'd like to find and join a group of people, whom have a specific uniform(s) for the team that can be adjusted for the individual's preference and the teams needs, but also are known to use and play sci-fi scenarios. I've been looking at a star-gate Atlantis kit. Amongst others. Never have enough money!!! (Blaming the tax-man)

I'm a very hands on guy, and in my job it's vital to be a team player, I just hope the team I join doesn't consider me "cannon fodder". I like to know the inns and outs of my kit/uniform, so will most likely be taking kit apart and putting it back together.

With my job I often find myself in new places, I've been to Germany and France with work so far, nothing exciting, I say that but I love my job, and I'm often in London, if any Londoners wish to do the basic "social meet" before a game or invite, then drop me a line.

I'm writing this, what seems like essay, in the NEC in Birmingham, gives me something to keep myself awake after 2 hours kip. Sometimes I might have to drop out of games, but this is rare as not many weekend jobs come up. "Touch wood" and my partner doesn't mind.
At the moment I don't drive, but I'm learning.

How do I describe myself without boring people...hmmm, Energetic, quick learner, nimble, short arse, can have verbal diarrhoea. (Mostly when writing or nervous.) and above all else, I'd say my best trait is 'I can fit into small bags for easy disposal' I mean I'm enthusiastic and willing.

I'm not really one of those guys who buys kit for the sake of it. If I don't have a use for it, and don't need it, I don't buy it. Simple!

Right, I think that's enough about me, *prods reader with finger* oi wake up!
I'm off to "Do some work"

    Dear applicant,

Thank you for the interest you've shown in the position of airsofter. Your CV is comprehensive and tells the community about your commitment and desire to participate in the game we enjoy. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that you've been unsuccessful at this stage.

This is not a reflection on your capabilities within the field of airsofting, but the pastime has numerous applications every day and we are unable to process each one individually. You should not take this letter of rejection personally, as you show a real desire to run around a site dressed in expensive clothes and playing with toy guns.

The resource department of the community wish you every success with your future career and hope that you achieve your goals.

    Warm regards, The forum clown.

Welcome to the forum and the game bud. Hopefully, you'll find someone in your area who you can get to a few sites with and get your hands dirty.

                Hello and welcome!

There are a few decent sites not too far away from you, but not driving may well be an issue in getting to them

Possibly The Mall in Reading is the easiest to get to by way of public transport, as being an ex city centre shopping centre, it's quite close to the train station. You can get the FGW service direct, and they run early in the morning due to them running to Gatwick

Hiya mate welcome to the community.

There are other forums that you should visit for a more impartial experience, as the rules here do not allow people to mention other retailers or forums etc meaning you only get half the story but it's a great place for general info and there are tons of really experienced guys who can tell you how to fix your stuff and what to get for your basic kit.

There are also TONS of threads advising of these things so to keep yourself popular always search to see if a thread already exists with your questions answered, before you start a whole new thread titled "what gun am bestest". :P

                  Welcome to an expensive hobby!

"This is my rifle, it's just a toy one, there are many like it, they're toy ones too, without it, i'm £250 better off, without me, it gathers dust in the corner, we're just big boys playing soldiers, lets try and remember that" play fair have fun.

I enjoyed the accidental irony in the first line of Rich's post!

                          Ay up not another "Newbie"

Expensive hobby.... With the kit I've been looking at, I'm surprised people can afford it. Between learning to drive, the tax man and rent. I'm having to squeeze every penny!
Still, planning my first load out. And game...

Oh by the way thanks for the advice about the research before asking questions.
