Well, according to the latest update, Wiltshire Police don't mention Airsoft anywhere:

Can't imagine plastic BBs getting stuck in his face needing surgery to remove. My bet is something like those Co2 Wingun (ASG/Umarex etc.) Revolvers that can shoot a 4.5mm steel BB at 500+ FPS.

I doubt that a 6mm BB could do the kind of damage that poor kid sustained, unless they were heavy weight rounds being fired at very high velocities, in which case, the rifle would have to be highly upgraded, and then it would likely be owned by somebody who knows what they are doing, and therefore knows what NOT to do with an airsoft rifle.

I agree, it was most likely a CO2 4.5mm airgun firing steel pellets. Sadly, 'airsoft' is a term much more widely available and used in the media, even if the incident doesnt relate to airsoft. They dont know the difference themselves, and just label it as that. Fair enough, if they dont know their mistake, they dont know its annoying us lot.

That FB thread though does seem to have a lot of people saying "Ban guns!" and then a few people who actually know what they are talking about.

Education is the best way forward from here, if the media made a clear distinction between airsoft and airguns, there would be less use of the wrong term

That's working on the theory the media would care about correct and balanced, accurate reporting as opposed to selling papers, airtime viewing figures and the whole media hype thing. If only.

If it was as powerful to require the removal from a kids face then it would exceed the levels for airsoft and would thus be an air weapon or a firearm depending on power etc.

Yes you can argue that it may have been a crap old TM springer with an M50000000 spring which worked for one shot before it exploded or some crap, and that means all the while there are airsoft guns there will be the possibility to power them up like this. Same could be argued for deacts, if they did not exist then people could not reactivate them. But no one is gonna ban deacts.

Are we gonna ban shampoo because someone washed their hair until it fell out because it said on the bottle "lather, rinse, repeat" so they kept doing it because it said repeat?!

As said, stupid people do stupid things. I cut myself shaving or cutting food all the time. Should we ban all knives and razors to protect me? Just because I am stupid?!
