take value of item and add shipping (probably around £60)
take that total and add duty
take that total and add VAT based on total amount
add shipper handling fee
you are usually looking at similar price to UK within £20 either way
Just checked , current price from Japan in GBP is £275.92 (based on the yen price you quoted)
so with shipping approx £325
add import tax and vat is approximately £418.81
add shipper handling fee of at least £14.95 and you get a total of
£433.76 so more expensive than Uk prices i've seen
34,800 yen is coming out at £248 for me
You think import duty and vat is around £90? I don't think it'll be that high. Maybe £30-£50 it won't be a huge parcel or heavy. I imported some heavy Ice hockey skates not too long ago and didn't cost much at all
My approximates are:
£250 for gun
£300 posted
£340 import fees
So £340-£380 being realistic
Thats between ££60-£80 quid saved which Is a substantial saving in my eyes and worth it.
Its all subjective with money but I wouldn't want to pay £400+ for a stock spring sniper unless it was very special and I like the Marui M40a5 but considering its got a new unproven feeding system, short stroke and smaller cylinder one has to ask is it really worth that money?
We will see being honest I would love to own one but I field a Vsr10 and L96 both upgraded and both by Marui so will wait and see how good it is when its been honestly reviewed by known Youtubers and on forums

That's because you're using Google's exchange rate, and not the rate the banks/PayPal would give you
If you were to order JPY right now from the Post Office, you're looking at £290ish

I'm using a professional up to the last few minutes exchange rate and using the duty and import calculations that I use everyday to accurately calculate importing for business , rather than taking a guess

Why is there a difference? you would have thought considering how widely used and big google is it would be a very accurate and real time exchange rate.

No need to come across ungentlemanly about it. If you refer to your earlier reply you actually stated you were using approximates.
As I previously mentioned I own two marui spring snipers so am in no rush or need to purchase the m40a5. Once its been genuinely reviewed and tested i'll consider purchasing and looking more deeply into importing it to see if I can save ££

Various reasons. Prices on Google are delayed by approximately 15 minutes I believe. Mostly to do with the fact traders trade on live data and (potentially) make large amounts of money on trading currencies (amongst other things)
SO, any data vendors (Reuters/Bloomberg/etc) charge large amounts of money for live data

Not trying to be ungentlemanly at all , just explaining the possible reasons why Google exchange rate and your tax estimation may differ considerably

Just checked three exchange rate sites ( from google so pinch of salt lol ) and x2 came out at £244 the other at £260.
When ordering off a JPN or US site wont they tell you the exchange rate price anyway or am I mistaken?
Well I googled

Re: TM KSG and M40A5
But as I said earlier, won't get the exchange rates you see online, unless you're looking directly at places that sell currency
Again, as I said earlier, you can order 38500 Yen from the Post Office, and it will cost you £290.38
If you were to pay xxxxx HK retailer via PayPal or international bank transfer, expect it to be even more £££
Why? Well because these places are making money off you, which is why you won't get close to the 140 rate I posted. The Post Office were offering 132 Yen to the Pound

Going to have to bite the bullet or give it a miss unless the rate gets better and stabilises and that's highly unlikely by spring/early summer
Can't blame one for trying to save money though!
