UCAP airsoft owner admits to stealing MOD equipment

I have played at UCAP Portsmouth many times so I am thoroughly disappointed in Andy, I think this should be a warning to all that you must be careful of what you buy and who you sell to.

Re: UCAP airsoft owner admits to stealing MOD equipment
He's made a statement on FB I'll reproduce here. I'm sure he'll see this thread himself eventually. In short, to no one's surprise, the media is mostly shit with some grains of truth.
Guys, there is indeed an article that concerns me in the paper. It would be fair to say they only 10% of the info is correct, skims over detail and sensationalises the story. Don't want to discuss it here but more than happy to speak to you face to face about it. I have been a collector of military kit for 15 years. I've sold items that I've bought on eBay and fairs, to collectors all over the world. This was items from my own collection which many of you will know is extensive. Just don't be naive when you get offered things, things that sometimes turn out to be too good to be true. Make sure you know exactly where items are coming from. Please done post on the thread it's not a discussion it's a statement. I'm sure there will be plenty of other places talking about it. The sites are unaffected as we have a strong team who will continue to try our best in giving customers a great game. Andy x

TBH it doesn't look good for him. If the media got it 10% right, goods have been nicked & sold on. That's not on.

And let's be honest , the type of stuff reported to have been found in his possession arent exactly normal surplus items ..

I would've said that too, however, £44k is a little bit too much to be "old stock", and anyway, in either situation, selling to airsofters or not - shouldn't have been doing it.

Re: UCAP airsoft owner admits to stealing MOD equipment
Amid the more lurid parts of the reports, two items stand out:
1. Andy pleaded guilty.
2. They discussed stealing the items online; this tends to indicate that this was not an honest mistake made by a gullible individual.
If the items stolen were current issue and not surplus, then all three deserve a hefty sentence.

Depends what he knew about said equipment when he bought it, was he told it was due for decommissioning, with the amount of crye kit the SAS go through a year (one of their purchase orders surfaced a year or so ago) they have a high turn over of kit such as uniforms and armour carriers.
Now obviously £44k isn't chump change at all, but when a full set of crye uniform goes for about £200 second hand and a decent plate carrier for anywhere between £100-500 it can add up quickly.
Without any more facts to hand and not knowing any of the real story bar what the Sun has reported and no doubt inflated and the statement Andy released can't really tell how much he was in the wrong.
One thing is true, the picture they have of Andy for the Sun is pretty bad, makes him look a buffoon.

You're presuming the £44k is an actual figure, and not something the Sun decided though

Yes, because we all know that the system doesn't promote perjury as a bribe for considerably lesser sentence.
Digressing, I don't condone theft at all, especially from the mod. I will reserve judgement until a more reliable source than the sun dishes details. Preferably ones that don't sensationalise it by saying that it will end up in the hands of terrorists multiple times when there is no evidence to support this.

Re: UCAP airsoft owner admits to stealing MOD equipment
Now I for one never believe what the papers say anyway! Over the years how many articles have they exaggerated? specially ones involving airsoft guns!
The papers say he was arrested for all the kit found at his house. Yet the papers don't say if they were all legal or if he was even charged or released for them?
For all we know is that the stun grenades could of been airsoft pyro or impact grenades, flare launchers could be deact and the "deadly kit" could have just been airsoft kit.
And what makes it less believable is that if they really did find all this stuff, it would have been a charge of firearm offences or even terrorism, not theft!
As for the night vision at Heathrow. It may have only been one pair as it states no figures! or if it was even MOD property. As a few genuine surplus US PVS 14 have popped up.
I know a few members on here that have sold legally bought kit abroad without knowing what's watched/restricted to send or if its restricted at the other end.
For all we know they may have actually only pleaded guilty to only one or two bits of kit. Not the massive haul the press are making out.
Now no doubt the real truth will eventually come out in the wash.
But until then, unless you know exactly what happened or the truth, there's no point slandering the bloke until he is 100% found guilty, and what he is actually found guilty for!

Innocent until proven guilty. I'll leave my pitchfork in the shed.
