subscribe as in putting card details ect, or agreeing to pay for a years worth of mags...
In the end I paid cash...

Ahh right, thanks. I thought I'd accidentally signed myself up for the mag then. I'll have enough cash problems with university! Silly me!

Re: Airsoft Action Magazine
competitions is always a good thing, means both will try out different things and you might find people who will like the views of 1 magazine and not the others and then people who will read both. I think its great that there is more than 1 magazine out, I currently get ai as soon as its in the shops but once I have read it I waiting for next months already. So something to feed that hunger is good.

But you're bound to say that being tight with B.E.N and the Ai staff....
I will probably subscribe to give it a fair run, I like the idea of being with something from the beginning!

I haven't really read either - disclaimer - but in the world of biking there were two big magazines that I remember.
MBUK - the biking equivalent of AI. Lots of text and opinionated reviewers. It was good in its hayday and it always had a good amount of gear reviews.
Dirt - you could tell that all of the writers rode their bikes every day and were really passionate about being accurate in their reviews/articles. A big thing of this mag was that the pictures dominated! Whereas MBUK would do a thumbnail or half-page picture, Dirt was likely to do a full page or two-page spread, very detailed picture.
I get the sense that AI is like MBUK, so if this new mag were to take a different angle on things, like Dirt did, then they'll probably have a good bit of success. If they're more of the same they'll have no chance!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but out of curiosity, what makes you think that? Is there something they are doing that Ai isn't or hasn't?

Something is amiss if Ai hasn't given you that impression, especially recently... Airsoft is pretty much ALL I do!

That said, if the market can support two similar titles then it's clearly a sign of the health of our passtime.
I think that's pretty much the crux of it. I'm happy provided that Airsoft Action magazine continues to present the hobby in a professional manner, and represent airsofters to the outside world as a healthy, safe and legitimate passtime.
I must say I was a little concerned by the cover shout "Dangerous Stuff" on the front of Airsoft Action, and it does go some way to undermine the things that a lot of people have put a lot of effort into over the years. Safety measures and rules prevent airsoft from containing any "dangerous stuff"!
But yes, like you say, if the market will support two titles, that means it must be bigger, and a larger following is great for everyone... Maybe TM wil take more notice of our needs!

Thus are the limitations of my opinion! I've not read enough of either to really give a good opinion :-) but that was a first-glance impression. I'm probably wrong ;-)
But still I felt, having flicked through only one or two issues of AI, that there was a lot of info yelling from all directions, whereas I prefer the big-picture simplicity of a magazine like Dirt (to use my illustration).

Hmm - i really enjoyed Take Aim over Ai and that hasnt lasted - well its no longer on the shelves in my WHSmiths - pity really as I liked the articles in it much better than Ai's.
I'd like to have a peek at this new mag to see for myself if its worth a few issues. So interested to hear what others have to say about it.

Anyone care to elaborate on what is in it? Site reviews? Weapon reviews? Loadout Discussion/guidance? Specifics please before I go hunting for a copy.

Yep, competition is a good thing, it will unfortunately lead you to working your arse off B.E.N to keep us of the great unwashed reading your magazine (mind you, it's about time you did some work :P).
Haven't read it but it might be worth a look. Having not picked up an issue of AI for a wee while now I can't comment on the latest contents but I know they'll be better than what was previously in there.
Oh, and as for "dangerous stuff", I probably think they're referring to big game pyro?

I though about this and I would agree with this. I love AI its a great mag but looking back when I read it I do feel like I need to get to the end of the magazine.
both magazines are great because its more opinions of the sport from different peoples view. what might be perfect for 1 person might be a pain for another.. something I think I remember reading from there Ninja section.
One thing I always stress about is if I like a mag that I know I can get every month I want it on a Direct Debit subscription so all I need to worry about at the end of the day is how long I need to wait for the next months.. sell that to me and I'm all yours.

I'd agree with this. I buy AI avidly every month without fail, even issues that are of no interest to me like the current Vietnam special.
I used to buy Take Aim and recently acquired a couple of copies of Airsoft Soldier, both of which I thought were better written and had better content than AI. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to AI hitting the shelves every month, but there are a lot of little things that could be better about it....
Typos, getting better but used to average about 10 an issue!
Not enough gun review- there's so many guns out there I wanna know about, and being the primary reason we all play I'd like to see more
Pictures... In some issues they will review a gun and not print a picture of it in it's entirety, just close ups of bits of it. I wanna see the whole thing!
Local loadouts... Good to know what gear people are wearing, but tell us more about their rifs too! Upgrades, others they own etc.
Personally I thought the really old issues of AI were better with game reviews, even the reviews of the errr... Military doll things were cool. Every month they did a different camo which was cool too, and competitions, shop reviews etc etc
Maybe action film reviews??
AI tends to only review/feature gear from a handful of retailers that I can't mention here. What else is out there?
Love to see 'Readers RIFs'!
WE WANT MORE GUN PORN (and just general porn)!!
Off topic a bit there... My point being a new mag and a bit of competition can only be a good thing, much as I love and probably will continue to buy AI
