Re: Show me your homemade spray jobs
Hi again Guy's. I thought I'd share my latest sprayed up editions for your perusal!!
I have Two Marushin AR15 shell ejectors here with my spare furniture done up to represent a certain period in recent times!! I still have the original black furniture to swap them about when I get bored.........as I often do...lol.
Of course these come "black", but you can make then look more authentic by stripping it down to the bare metal (leave slight patches darker). Then give it a light covering of "Humbrol Metal Coat Polish spray". Buff it up to a shine with a rag (Old T-Shirt). It makes the metal come up really "used" if done right. Use fine wet n dry paper to give the edges a good seeing to, then spray a "Satin Varnish" to protect it so as not to get the spray rubbing off in your hands!! After I do the camouflage job, I always give that a going over with the wet n dry to simulate hard use, as in my opinion they shouldn't look new!!
XM177E2 "M653 BHD Edition". Tan and Dark Earth sprayed on the furniture, then heavily rubbed over with wet n dry!! The Aimpoint scope is the "standard" one you can get everywhere, but I made it look more like the period version by taking the lens caps off, rubber adjustment "thingy" off, and smoothed down the knobs on them. I cut a 30mm bit of pipe about an inch and a half, put it on the back with a 2nd scope ring (no need to glue it hold on place when tightened).
M16A1 "British Special Forces" "80's DPM Edition". Grass Green, Dark earth over a Tan base Coat sprayed over furniture then rubbed over with wet n dry!! Black done with a marker pen for greater accuracy!! Given a Top Coat of Matt Varnish to protect. Real steel sling and 30rnd mag.
Comments welcome!!
Enjoy!!
Richie.

Re: Show me your homemade spray jobs
Sorry bud just checking! You have to strip the furniture separate from the main body. It's easier than masking off if you can help it. I open the body up and put a rag or kitchen roll inside to protect from the spray to be safe.
I'll post the "process" of how I did it, I'm sure It'll help!!
BTW the "post Thanks/Like bar is not at the bottom of my latest post, but it was on the previous ones last October, I never noticed them missing before?? Is it only on your own posts or ve you not got one on yours bud??
Any help I'm here for advice etc...
Richie.

Re: Show me your homemade spray jobs
Hi again all, Just thought I'd send some pictures of the DPM Spray job and what I used!! I Googled the images and drew them out on a finished cereal packet. Cut out the stencils then placed over where I wanted them to be.
I started off with a Tan base coat, then did the grass green. Next was the dark brown then I used a permanent marker to do the black, as it's easier to do I find. Give it a rub over with wet n dry then spray with matt varnish to protect the look!!
The Spray I used was Humbrol model spray from "Boyes" store around £4 each.
Hope the images are clear enough for people to see ok.
Any questions, drop me a PM, I'd be glad to help where I can.
Richie.

The XM177 looks bloody fantastic! I'm currently building my one too.. don't suppose you're open to parting with the extra furniture?
