The wood effect was actually really easy to achieve... A good sanding over, followed by a thinm oily black acrylic ink wash.

I had to give the foregrip a couple of coats to bring out the grain, but that's it!

tis true, only optics that belong on an m14 are a sniper scope or an aimpoint like in BHD

I know, but i had a scope before and just didnt get on with it on the battlefield. I fancy an ACOG or something similar so i dont loose that quick target aquisition you get with a red dot, but yet have a bit of maginification to help with the long range shots. I do have an aimpoint but its on my SCAR at the mo.

You can get short 1.5-2x mag aimpoints I think mate, might want to check the bay for one of those?

This started life as a Thunder Maul, and according to the guy I bought it from it wasn't working at all. I sold the horrible bits on the Bay of E (and was amazed by the amount of people who will bid for nasty green plastic), put on a second hand Stubby Killer front end, a new trigger guard from my bits box, a PEQ battery box, and a cheap silencer from Hong Kong. I followed the painting guide by Tallbloke, and here it is. To say it's by far and away the cheapest, crappiest gun I've ever had it's turned out pretty well. The only problems I have found with the gun were a filthy barrel, a rubbish battery, and the hicap mag with it needed winding! Apologies for the cam-phone pics.
