Re: 1911s + Variants
Nova Salient Arms 1911 Commander length
Built this kit the other day using a Foliage Warrior as a basis.
This is the brand new Nova Salient 1911 kit that pretty much transforms a stock Marui or equivalent into a jewel of a gun.
Fitment is perfect - a bit fiddly as usual as there is never any instructions supplied and I'm not familiar with the 1911 platform as much as Sigs and Glocks.

Re: 1911s + Variants
A question for TM 1911 owners are they skirmish able right
out of the box? The reason why I ask is because the only site
I can access for the foreseeable future is a CQB site that alternates
between a clostraphobic office block and a wherehouse every
second week. The worse knews is that I have to use public transport
so the gear ha to be compact and concealable so as to not arouse
suspicion.
Also how are they in regards to dismantling/ modifying?
Lots of nice rif's here! Wolf I find it impossible to comprehend how your
massive superb collection exists! lol

The short answer here is yes. Only thing I will say is that like all single stack pistols, they don't handle the cold too well. However, I run mine quite happily on propane in the winter, and 144a in the summer, and have no issues.

I'm assuming from this you intend to use the gun as a primary, and don't want big gun? If so, I'd tend to steer you towards the double stack TM pistols, specifically the glock or sig. They have slightly bigger gas resevoirs to handle the cold and rapid fire better, and slightly higher magazine capacities. I'm not saying the 1911 is a bad choice in this regard, just that these are slightly better in my opinion.
Your ability to transport it is going to be the same for pretty much any pistol, short of the really long barrel stuff, and a basic pistol case or simmilar will disapear into pretty much any gear bag you happen to be using to take the rest of your bits and pieces.

Takedown is easy once you get the hang of holding the slide in the right spot. Doesn't take long to find a way of holding it that suits you.
Modifying is also fairly easy. There's an absolute butt ton of parts available, and tons of guides available for all the possible projects. Obviously some mods require more skill to fit than others, but that's down to the mod in question, and (in some cases) how well the parts you are fitting are made.

Re: 1911s + Variants
Cheats bob I know what you mean about double stack but
I have my hart set on single stack 1911 ever since I held my
first one about 5-6years ago. Particularly interested in the MEU
Or Night Warrior. And yes it would be used a primary.
I intend to use a laptop/ messenger bag as all I plan on using kit wise
is a belt rig and civvi's.
Thanks again for the answers!

Re: 1911s + Variants
If you want a nice 1911 out of the box that performs well, go for the newer series 70. Then go for extended magazines. They can be as punchy as Hi Capa mags on a good day, much better than the standard mags.
Fill them with a realistic number of rounds, and put in a 120% hammer spring and nothing more, and you've got a performer that'll kick nicely into your hand too

Will the harder spring shorten the lifespan
of the abs parts?
Would love the ext mags but in two minds
about them don't think I could live with the
extra bit of mag hanging out.

Re: 1911s + Variants
Extended mag = more gas and pressure ( not necessarily rounds in the gun). I think you misunderstand what Ben was getting at.
The issue with 1911s is the small gas magazines compared with the hi-capas and other pistols.
