I'm awarding you one 'Like' for falling into a trap. That's a RIS, not a RAS; in this older version the locking tab screws over the handguard cap, as opposed to the RAS which has its locking arrangement at the rearward end of the assembly and merely a locating tab under the handguard cap.

Re: Colt M4 & Variants
Didn't realize how crappy that first picture was ... here's another.
Add On's wise, above and beyond the foregrip, I'm not sure whether to get a Red Dot or not as I'm trying avoid the M4 has RIS = Torch, Lazer, PEQ, Bells, Whistles etc route but I have a nagging feeling it needs something.
Opinions?

Thanks for the like lol, but I'll challenge you on this ha ha, got any thing to back it up? I'm not being an arse, I've owned a fair bit of RS gear, including Knights kit, I'm just struggling to see how it'd "Clamp" once you tighten the screw.
Enlighten me please , and I'll "like" you back :p
Edited for grammar (made it a bit better anyway)

Re: Colt M4 & Variants
I'm afraid that the RIS is now so old that I can't find an original KAC manual for it online. However, here's some other AR-15.com members
getting just as confused as you
, as well as some photos of how the clamp arrangement works (by gripping the handguard cap between the tab and the RIS body):
Best of all, in a different AR-15.com thread here's coldblue (a high-level employee of KAC)
detailing the instructions
for RIS installation:

RIS installation is sort of like re-installing the plastic handguards or a RAS, but some important differences: [...]
(2) The front tab projecting from the front of the RIS should be installed (i.e., "rest")
on top of the forward handguard cap during & after installation
(RAS front tab goes under the cap).

Re: Colt M4 & Variants
Awesome, you learn something new everyday, thanks for that . I still see it as odd, maybe that's why the RAS forward tab goes underneath, and they moved the locking to the rear , to generally tighten everything up,bottom rail wobble is a common problem once they've seen a bit of use.
I've owned a couple of RAS, and the Diemaco/UKSF issue version, which has the rear locking tabs top and bottom, the latter being the most stable version I've used.

For those who've been following the 1911 thread lately, you'll have already seen the sidearm which will be accompanying this rifle.

Re: Colt M4 & Variants
Here's my LM4. It's as finished as I can get it for now! All I need is an ambi PTS fire selector but I can't for the life of me find one in stock! I've got a G&P DBAL en route. If I could find a heavy weight outer barrel for it I would have it in a heartbeat!
Apologies for the crappy phone picture, my camera decided to take a swim.
