Yeah the colour yours has ended up with is what I wanted mine to look like, but mines ended up a shade brighter than I'd like. I used the birch wood Casey walnut stain kit and made the mistake of diluting the stain a little bit, thinking that the oil would darken it slightly. Will be refinishing it tommorow if my stain arrives.
Your's looks a lot like a certain rifle from Arma 2/Day Z.

Same stuff I used mate. Took me three coats overall but didnt look too dissimilar to yours. The gunstock finisher darkens it down to what Ive got now.
So dont worry if it looks pale, it will darken up with the next step.
This was mine after 3 coats of stain.
