Second life for a 2tone
18 January, 2011, 03:34
Hey guys,
Haven't really been around much over xmas and new year so thought i'd chuck up a thread for my new(ish) M4.
I bought this as a 2tone project needing a little tlc...
Before
Holy Sh*t, my eyes! i hear you cry!.. Have faith and look below.
After
Amazing what a paintjob can do huh?
I gave it a strip and clean, prime, black undercoat then the lower receiver, newly bought sliding stock and 2 out of 4 RAS covers got a blast or two of Humbrol Dark Earth followed by a light coat of matt varnish.
I then added a new sling plate, battery bag, RIS mount torch, an old vert grip and the Eotech 551 rep off my other M4 to finish it off.
Any suggestions, questions, etc etc welcome... Unless they relate to COD, in which case you can p*ss off
Sh*t happens. But mostly to me, so you're okay.

Very nice.
Only thing id say is drop the torch (i presume its a torch) on one of the side rails and move the grip further up the rail or drop the vert grip altogether.
And a lowwer profile flip up rear sight.
Otherwise to me anyway its perfect.

Re: Second life for a 2tone
I did originally look at mounting the torch on the 3 or 9 oclock rail but couldn't be arsed chopping up the RIS covers. I've also got a bad habit of gripping the rifle by the magwell so the close vert grip setup suits me not too badly. It's something to consider looking at again however. Someone else on another board suggested i take the MOE DE grip off my M4a1 and transfer it to this, although i still think it might be DE overkill... Any thoughts on that?

I think you have the perfect balance of black and DE there, any more might overdo it but its always worth dropping it on and having a look.
Just took another look can you actualy see through that Eotech?...lol

Impressive work, just go to show what can be done with a bit of patience. What humbrol no did you use?, closest I've found was 155 but thats a bit green still. And if you like holding the mag have you tried one of the FAB Defence magwell grips?, I used them a few times and quite like them.

Lol yes you can see through it! Those are just flip up covers
The paint is humbrol 29 matt dark earth and comes in a spray. It's about 4 or 5 quid to the door on fleebay, just remember to varnish it. As for the well grips, I've debated them a few times but never tried them. You reckon they're alreet do you?

Re: Second life for a 2tone
Grabbing the magwell isnt a bad habit at all! If you do that, get yourself a magwell foregrip, then you can lose the vertical grip altogether! Doh, just realised, someone has suggested that already.
