The gun's mine, so I'll answer the question.

First I went to Russia and bought real-steel AKM wood grips, a Russian AK sight, real AK sling, real-steel AK cleaning rod, and real-steel AKM muzzle brake. Cost me next to nothing, really.

I got a mate to saw off the rear of the ejection port to make it shorter, didn't like the solid black thing covering up the internals. Plus, it moves back farther that way. Painted it black, sanded the surface to make it smooth, and sprayed it with silicone oil to make it shiny, like the real finish on AK rifles.

I whittled down the foregrips (with a lot of blood spilled along the way), fitted them on. Put on the muzzle-brake (had to superglue it to the right position as it was upside-down if you just screwed it on. The type-56 doesn't have the proper mount for muzzle-brakes like Russian AK replicas do). Removed the Type-56 sight and put in the Russian one.

I was going to cut off the enclosed front sights, but decided against it as they're quite comfortable.

Slightly sanded the surface on the body of the rifle to make the steel underneath shine through. Sanded the screws to give a used appearance, and stopped there as most users on zeroin sand their AK's to hell, to the degree that it's absolutely ridiculous.

Tightened the stock so it didn't wobble as much and used epoxy-resin to prevent the screws from getting loose again. Add the stock, and you're finished.

Was going to buy a real AKM ribbed dust cover, but those are pretty hard to find. The real-steel dust covers will fit the Type-56 because Real Sword made it in the correct dimensions. Most airsoft AK's are 5mm too long and slightly too wide because of the gearbox.
