As in, 'extended' rails so the silencer sinks into them, so to speak. I presume they're just called extended rails, but i've had no luck, just wondered if there was any chance they had a name?

No the ones on the g36 have a specific name, so far as is i know there isnt a railed grip like you describe for an mp5

Could've sworn one manufacturer made a RIS SD front end.. can't find it online for love nor money mind you.. I would brows the HK thread but i really can't be bothered.

You can also buy a floating rail system for an mp5. which would basically fit where the ribbed grip on the sd is. it fits the none sd models abut not the sd version.
i know jg did one called a mp5 ras

Pretty sure Zero One sell the RAS front end. At least they offer an MP5 package that includes the RIS.
