  • Daisy C3 Ballistic Glasses - $10

First review on this forum? Ahh well, gotta' start somewhere!

I bought these glasses from a HK retailer which particularly specialises in selling china made products, primarily element brand.

For the last 2 years now, I've been using modified ESS V12 goggles that I bought for £25 or so, and they've been great. I had been shot several times in the goggles and they worked fine. The carrying case is a nice little bonus as well, with the interchangeable lens' and air system being other added benefits.

However, Because of the rear strap, these had started to become a little bit uncomfortable to wear. Furthermore, it was impossible to use some rifles when equipped with certain scopes due to the fact that the goggles aren't as low profile as glasses, or your eyes.

So a change was in order. After much looking around, and having several friends who use the ESS ICE 2.4 glasses, these were a consideration, especially as its a known brand and can be had in the UK. But, I actually wanted some sunglasses to repair the ageing one's I used to own.

Fortunately, the Daisy C3 comes with 4 different lens'.

Neutral Gray: Provide true color definition. Ideal for everyday, all purpose wear. These have a tint making it impossible to see your eyes.
Blue: 9% Transmission, Neutral Transmission. For extreme bright light usage. These also have a tint.
Clear MLC: Clear lenes with special multi-layer coating. Enhances visual acuity during low light conditions.
Cadmium Yellow: High contrast yellow lenes. Ideal for very low light condition.

Lots of choice. I personally use the Neutral Gray lens in a skirmish.

As well as this, they come with everything you see below:-

    So that's:-

Lens Set, Glasses, Carry case, strap, soft case, cleaning wipe and some prescription inserts, as well as two spare nose support pieces. Nice package, for the price:

These cost $7 USD (Special offer, which seems to be lasting for ages!) before postage, from HK. I had these as part of a big order, but on their own, I think these can be had for $10USD posted; so around £7 or so.

Now, I know what you're thinking... Do I really have such little thought and care for my eyes that I'm willing to trust some HK company selling me glasses; at $7 surely they're not much kop? Having read a few reviews about the Guarder C3 glasses, I was a little bit worried that these would be the same:- People had reported that even at 350fps, point blank range shooting at the lens when attached to the frame, the lens could pop out and damage the construction of the frame.

Worried. Still, it was only $7 so wasn't too bothered.

Despite this, I did some research on the Daisy C3 glasses, and after some mixed reviews, and not much information, I thought I'd head over to Youtube and see if there was anything there... Well read on.

They arrived just over 2 weeks of placing my order. That's almost average for HK airmail these days. So I took delivery of the large package and proceeded with unwrapping, as if it were Christmas. Now, to be honest, the glasses were not of priority in this delivery. Nevertheless, I took them out of the (nice) black zip-up case they came in, which has "Daisy USA Military" written over it.

There's some doubt about the authenticity of this. People have stated that Daisy do not supply the US Military with their products. Despite this, they are written on for a reason; perhaps they were once issued?

Upon inspecting them, I did see where some people were coming from - the frame doesn't seem particularly rigid and looks cheaply made.

So my doubts about the protection they would give my eyes had increased. However, despite this, I watched a few youtube videos, where some Russian (?) experimentalists tested these Daisy C3 glasses. So the first thing that caught my eye was this:-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiWZBeW_1bQ

Can the lens survive being hit with a hammer? Yes.

    Then this caught my eye:-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxDf3ah_ZgE

Can the lens survive being stamped on several times? Yes.

Then a related video pops up. Although I don't think these feature the C3, it shows various other glasses being tested, some which looked very cheap so I had guessed mine would be in a similar/ the same category.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbYms...eature=related

Can the lens survive a brick, being used as a weapon? Yes.

Can the lens survive a round from a live firing weapon? Yes.

Needless to say, I was impressed. Build quality aside, these looked like the shit. I conducted my own tests with a hammer and concluded that I couldn't break them, no matter how hard I tried.

If anyone is wondering, the Lens' measure in around 2.1-2.2mm or so. Nice and thick. They're also made out of Polycarbonate and (the relevant ones) offer UV400 protection.

So how do I rate them?

9.5/10. Price, Safety, Package etc, are all spot on. The -0.5 is down to the build of the frame being a bit crappy.

    Field testing:-

I was able to field test these the other week. I am happy to say that after 5 or more shots hitting the lens' (various ranges), there wasn't any sign of damage.

I have a pair of these and untill I turned to mesh used them all the time. Not only for Airsoft but work too. Very handy if you work in Construction as more employers are having eye protection as mandatory these days.

Just be wary of ANY Yellow lense as these are only supposed to be worn in dark and dingy places. Aparently and I have to say that as I'm not a doctor or optician, yellow tinted lenses open your pupils and thats why your surroundings look brighter. So they can actually not be very good for you on a sunny day as they will let too much light into your eye.

I'm sure someone qualified can quantify the above.

Those have to be blanks, or he dosent give a damn where the round will eventually fall.

To be honest I'm not sure he actually cares where the round is going; have you seen how much abuse he's giving these?

Furthermore, I own an 8mm UK legal Bruni M92 blank firer. You may already know, but I'll repeat for anyone else: What is absent from the video is a muzzle flash. Blank firers always muzzle-flash (it's one of the ways you can denote a live firing weapon from a blank - live firing weapons will only muzzle flash during the dark, evening hours - and even then it's nowhere near to the extent as a blank).

Even take a look at 2.19 where they slow the video. You can see a spark of orange as if something is hitting the walls of the rifled barrel upon exiting.

2.56 - I've never seen a blank round penetrate all these layers of card (not the strongest material but still).

I'm sure mine came with the option of either a normal glasses arms over the ears or an elastic strap to go round your head and foam insert to go inside the frame so they sat snug to your face.

Yeah think mine did too, definitely included the strap.

Long shot - these offer some nice clearance perfect for air flow, but still small enough not to get a bb in (well it would be a damn good shot).

With the inserts in, they can still fit close to the face. Breathed upwards yesterday and they fogged, but was gone within 3 seconds.

Gaffa, any chance of a picture of you wearing these to get the idea of how they look and how much they 'wrap around' the sides of the face/eye?
