  • Dboys KAC PDW - Any Good?

This just caught my eye, and seems pretty good value. I've heard mixed opinions about Dboys, and just wondered if anyone has had any experience with this gun. I wouldn't mind replacing a few parts, such as the piston, and I'd downgrade it from its stock power, but if upgrades get too costly, I would rather just find a gun which is better out of the box. Also, could anyone recommend a small PEQ box, or is it worth trying to store the battery in the handguard?

    Thanks in advance.

I know Boo Sabum Ben had one, you could try PMing him

I read a fair few reviews a couple of years back and most of them said it was decent for the money but ideally needed a motor upgrade as the standard one was a bit slow. I didn't buy one in the end as I traded my RS Type 56 for the VFC version

As for battery in the handguard, you'd need the RA Tech conversion for it to fit. I had that with mine but had to strip it down everytime I wanted to get the battery in/out and went with rear wiring it and a battery sling in the end

Thanks for the info. Which motor would you recommend I swap it with? I don't like the idea of having to strip it every time... I may just stick with the original PEQ box until I find a more elegant solution. Ideally a narrower and longer PEQ.

        Did I hear my name?

It's a quality bit of kit, I regret selling mine every now and then.

The body is rock solid, quite close to the vfc except the markings aren't engraved. But that's really for when you're sat at home alone in the bedroom...

Gearbox is alright, but if you plan to open it up anyway, just replace the gearset and piston, ad you're good to go. My local techie puts asg gears into everything he owns, but I had mine change with a set of classic army gears.

I didn't have any problem with the motor on mine, after fitting a 7.4v lipo I struggled to get it to half cock ever on semi, so I wouldn't bother changing that really.

I wouldn't do the battery conversion, simply because a foregrip and a peq-15 will be fine. You'll need a lipo for a peq-15 sized battery box, but its well worth it.

Mine I had set up with a doctor sight as well. So far the only sight I have thought is worth any time/money in Airsoft.

So just a lipo set up, a foregrip, and a gearset and piston change, and you've got something that will last a long time, and is a lot more special than your standard M4!

Looks fantastic! I'll bear that in mind. What fps are you running it on, and what sort of range/accuracy are you getting?

I changed the motor in mine as I found it would slow down. It takes a medium lenth motor that can be hard to find got mine from hk. Rewired it to the rear and run it off a sling battery pack. Nice bit of kit very good for cqb.

I run mine for woodland and it's fine too

Don't have her anymore, but she was around 320, which is all you need really. Range was the same as a standard M4, as its the same gearbox and hop up. So any improvements you can make to an M4 hop you can do to these.

You can fit an m4 grip to it and fit a long motor if you can't find a medium motor. As said body very solid.

I'll have to consider a battery sling. Are they alright in the rain? Overall, sounds worth getting. Anyone got one for sale? :D

I had mine downgraded as it was putting out around 370fps, banged on a GMIC PEQ15 battery Box (Same as Ben's) and use the square/flat LIPO batteries used in RC Cars - The PEQ15 sized box is small enough that it doesn't really ruin the lines of the rifle.

Of course there is an internal batery modification that can be done - Involves cutting and stuff so I didn't bother.

                        A PEQ15 sounds perfect!

bought a knackered one off here for £80 and did the internal battery mod. You don't need the expensive RA Tech lipo, I did the same thing with a dremel and a $9 7.4 lipo - but it did take a few days! Not a mod for the faint-hearted! I love the gun to bits though. Put on a new motor and grip some internals...

Would you care to elaborate on the details of the internal battery mod? I quite like the PEQ15, but the rifle would look shmexier with the battery tucked inside.
