If you look at the other side of the hop unit you can see the tab moving up and down as you turn. Down is more hop.

Even better ^ down I assume is when the gun is the right way up?

And is there a way to adjust it without field stripping in-between test shots?

if the bolt is held open you can access the hop adjuster with an allen key through the tappet space

I don't have the #9 part on (nor the selector) so there's nothing blocking the hop
