ASG/ARES Concern Izhmash Dragunov SVD-S
24 January, 2012, 21:54
I've just bought the ASG/ARES licenced concern izhmash Dragunov SVD-S and have bought an ASPUK steel sear and upgraded piston as after about 200 rounds the internals are covered in metal flakes from the stock piston and sear.
Out of the box the hop is quite good and fires the bb straight down the middle of the iron sights with a slight deviation at the end of the flight path. I am also planning on getting an upgraded hop unit from an A&K to see if it a) fits and b) takes much modification to make one fit.
The gun comes with the "m100" spring fitted. I swiftly swapped it for the also included "m120" which, chrono'd at a surprisingly consistent 440/445fps albeit being made from what looks like mash potatoe! This says to me that although the fps is consistent now, I dare say it will consistently "settle" over the coming months.
Overall for the price and with a little extra spent you can have a boltie that can hold its own and run with the big dogs.
I'll try and keep y'all posted with upgrade modifications.
Al.

I noticed you haven't put up the picture of the blister you had on your finger and one afternoon skirmish.
This gun looks absolutely beautiful too. Way better in the flesh...

With regards to the upgrades;
The ASPUK A&K uprated piston fits perfectly and creates a good seal.
The ASPUK piston sear for the A&K doesn't fit without drilling a 5-6mm hole for the ASG's piston sears return spring.
Also, with regards to the heavy cocking action I tried taking the bolt return spring out to see if that made any difference. It did, and a fair bit to. But after re-cycling the action a couple of times it didn't feel right and a tad sloppy so I put it back in.
My only solution to this is to extend the cocking leaver. I have a good idea for this but its a secret. :p

Don't know how strong it'll be in a full days skirmish, but I have cycled it about 30 times now and it hasn't come off yet!!

I got a de-act 5.56 round pulled the copper slug out, pinched the front end of the casing to fit the handle and tapped it on with a small hammer. Job done.
It won't cock the gun on its own but it spreads the weight making the action more comfortable.

Certainly is! I pinched the end and tapped it on with a toffee hammer. Hasn't come off yet. It spreads the weight a bit to make it more comfortable.
