I tend to fire the minimum I need to..single shots or 2-3 bursts if its going well.
For suppressing fire, I might step it up to 5-6 bursts, anymore than that and its a waste..havent found anyone yet who doesnt duck if a few bb's land very close.

I use single shot for sniping and taking out targets from a concealed position. Extended fire will give me away.
I tend to burst when snap firing or CQB. It makes sure of the kill without hurting people. I get some spread of fire because it'll be moving target and my RIF will be moving.
hits the nail on the head for me

Real men fire single shots with the gun set on full auto.

Re: Single or full auto?!
it also depends on what gun you are using. i would never use my mac 11 on semi auto. whats the point of having a GBB smg that can fire >1300RPM if you stick it on semi. same goes for a pulse rifle for example

Re: Single or full auto?!
My current workhorse only fires on semi. So limited options there. Same with my pistol. Only use my MP5 for urban night games which only allow semi, so thats semi too.
When i run my M16 though it will be used on auto when assaulting bunkers. Magpul M4 pretty much lives on auto, regardless of situation. Only thing that changes is the duration of the the burst.

Re: Single or full auto?!
Pretty much agree with you in a way Fenriz. All those guns you mention fire auto in real life so i would say yes fill yer boots.
I also think you are right, that when firing on auto it is the length of bust which makes it feel right or not. 1-2 second burst is enough I think.
Thats still between 20-60 bb,swhich I think is ample to get someones head down

Re: Single or full auto?!
My local site has a "recommended" 3-second burst limit.

Same for Dragon Valley, plus a 600 round limit for all other weapons per 1/2 to 3/4 hour game.
It really improves the game play in my mind. The only time I found it to be a pain was when in one building exchanging fire with a guy using a support weapon in the sniper tower about 30m away. Pop up - fire - duck - pop up - fire - duck.............. all the time trying to anticipate when the other guy would stick his head up, as the range was long enough to allow you to duck when they fired. Obviously, I ran out of ammo first and had to call myself out of the game. Still fun though!

Re: Single or full auto?!
Set the AEG to full auto and then use what's needed. As I'm running with an MG36 atm I'm doing quite a lot of suppressing fire so its been a lot of full auto long bursts.

Re: Single or full auto?!
I use full auto (within the site burst rules) if I have my AEG. Will use Pistol/Shotgun/M79 if I want/need/have to use single shot

Re: Single or full auto?!
Support weapon= something to lean on.
On topic though. Any weapon regardles of gun should not be used a la Rambo style. Even suppression weapons are used in short controlled bursts of a few seconds at a time.
Long uncontrolled bursts are a thing of hollywood (small h intended). Any ex, or serving squaddie, will tell what happens to a barrel and internals of a gun if fired this way.
Still if thats what floats your boat we can't stop you, it's your oney in bb's going down range

Re: Single or full auto?!
Aye overheating ftl, I run a 9.6 so auto feed drum cant keep up if you just keep the trigger down. I do how ever think that people should't complain about full auto in airsoft it self, milsim yes but airsoft no. Two compleatly different playstyles.
