we do this at AA southampton, we call it 3-phase attack and defend. usually its a fre for all but what i ,and some of the team usually do is stay in the hut and cover the corners then just pick them off as they come around the sides, doesnt normally work for very long but is very, very fun. not really a suggestion, more a statement.

I think being aware of precisely how the enemy is attacking you is important - if yyour holding well enough in your spot but your team is being pushed back, you need to back off with them no matter how well you're doing - otherwise you'll be left isolated and surrounded and then its just a matter of time.

Also, particularly if you push out from what you're defending, you can usually afford to give ground so you can pick up the defense at a new line - especially if your defence is collapsing at one end so everyone pulls back and reforms. Being aware of what's going on is crucial. Ultimately, the only way you can make taking your position difficult for the enemy is if they absolutely MUST walk straight down the muzzle of your gun - and that's very hard to do without proper coordination and making sure everyone stays in their place.

Support gunner + Hard cover = wall of fire.
            One flank secure :P.
Worked well up until the point some guy got a lucky shot on me .

Nothing better then watching people running around medicing people whilst under fire XD.

Re: Holding ground... any other ideas

we played this game a few times at my old skirmish site, when defending we decided to spread the main force out in front of the objective and then myself as part of a three man covert team flanked the enemy got behind them and caused as much interference as possible.

Using this tactic we managed to hold the first base for around 40 minutes of the game during which time we stopped 3-4 attempts at the enemy team trying to flank us, and managed to get ourselves in a position to assault the team commanders position which meant the dead guys trying to rejoin the group had no orders and ran around like headless chickens.

good tactic to try your covert team has to be extremely sneaky though and have to be able to hide well obviously once you shoot the guys dead once they know were you will be second time round.

i think the most important thing to consider when defending is communi-fricking-cation.

attacking lone wolf is fine, but defense requires teamwork and coordination. you need to tell your buddies where the opfor are attacking from, how many, and what colour socks they're wearing. defence requires observation and careful reaction, and this can't be done alone. defence also requires plenty of ammo, so if you're low, you tell your ball boy to give you some of the white stuff. radios are fine, but also yelling 'he's over there' works well too.

last weekend we were attacking a mock bridge with oppositions objective to defend
respawn 100m back from front line (woodland) upon respawn making our way back to front line we were ambushed , the enemy were coming from behind our respawn point.
pissed some of us off big time.
                        what are your thoughts ?
if defending yeah i get the counter attack but from behind our respawn that just feels like cheating to me.

Re: Holding ground... any other ideas

keeping peoples heads down, and keeping an eye on as much as possible really helps.

last weekend i positioned myself in a window, using adead man (we call him boris, hes just a big dead dummy) as a moveable sandbag to shoot from, using my AK as a machine gun turret.

I only got about 2 kills, but because i was spraying at people who looked like they were gonna move, a lot of them were pinned down!

unfortunately this plan fell apart when someone blew off my shoulder with a very good shot!

personally I think that to hold out that long it one position was grand, but could have been held longer if the formation was further out from your defending objective, then retreat back as your lads get picked off to the next position, then the next position, then to the final semi circle formation, having support gunners fall back first, then the other chaps, best to hold the retreat until you have lost about 30-40% of the formation, unless an entire flank falls, or section falls in which case retreat back to the position directly behind.
If the enemy starts bounding, commit forces directly behind the line where the bounding is happening, only way to stop bounding is to stop the formation bounding.
