Support tactics.
27 April, 2010, 13:19
How does every one play there support role?
I still use my M60 as a assault weapon and role at the front of the fight but when i come across a good position i deploy el bi pod and start dakkka dakkka dakkka and keep the the other team from moving closer.
What does every one else do as a support role?

give enough fire to keep enemy heads down.
as Kipper said a good sniper would provide enough shots to suppress the enemy

Re: Support tactics.
Im today's game the only place a support weapon makes any difference is Milsim. The extra ammo counts when trying to suppress the other side. Any AEG with a hicap can rock the support role at a skirmish. Its a shame really, at my skirmish site my M60 is basically a £950 hicap mag...but heavier.

Re: Support tactics.
When I had my 249 the site I used to go to considered it cheating if you stand up Rambo style shooting a support weapon. You could only use it if the bipod was deployed and on firm ground beit the ground a tree trunk or something solid.
Is this not the case at all sites?

I think the OP was talking about support weapons. - but a good sniper could indeed provide good support - though it would be much easier with a support weapon.

Re: Support tactics.
Well you might as well stick a box mag on an M4 pistol then....
I guess they were trying for a bit of realism...

Re: Support tactics.
Iv only played in a support role once so I am by no means an expert. I was often first to engage laying down heavy fire when advancing. Or when in buildings I was on point. I think there should be more rules at alot of sites to make support weapons a worth while aspect of the game. As people have mentioned above usaly you only see there effects in mil sim, which is a shame.

Why? A real M249 is capable of being fired from the shoulder quite accurately, at least enough for supression anyway, the para model especially

Re: Support tactics.
I think youll find that the doctrine for the minimi (in the british army anyway) is to patrol along with the stock collapsed and bipod up then if contacted few rounds from the hip in the general direction of the enemy threat and then find a good position drop bipod, extend stock and get the rounds down with 5-7 round bursts. This is what minimi gunners are taught (at least it was in 2008 when i learnt) As for their role usually as part of an FSG they will be in a flanking position and stay static keeping the heads down while the assaulting force moves closer, they will then switch fire (keep firing but move point of aim left or right to avoid blue on blue) then when the position has been defeated reorg will be called and everyone will regroup on the Sect Comds position.
