Re: Taclights: Strobe or not?
Realise I'm being a bit of a necro with this post but hey!
The Milsim sight I play at you do actually sign a health and safety for as part of their insurance and it includes a section on strobes so I'm happy to use them then because if people do have a bad reaction to them they are taking the risk in playing as well as the fact that there are weekends where they aren't allowed so they may as well just go to those games.
For CQB or regular sights I tend not to unless it's against friends of mine.
So to sum it up:
Milsim - I'm going to strobe you like a mofo.
Any other time - Flick to constant

Re: Taclights: Strobe or not?
I use strobe, and have no issues with having strobes used against me, all the sites Ive been to CQB wise have allowed them have had no issues in years.
Id say lasers are a bigger issue personally

Re: Taclights: Strobe or not?
I used the strobe on my Fenix TA21 by accident at The Mall a while back and it worked surprisingly well. 3 of us were stood in the open (like a bunch of idiots) on a stairwell trying to fix someone's grenade. While he was trying to unjam it I showed my mate the strobe function on it. A few seconds later a guy popped round the stairwell below and took aim. As he did so I activated the torch, with the strobe setting still on. He fired at us and despite only being a few metres away and having us bang to rights, he missed all 3 of us, before we all ducked back in for cover. I was amazed none of us got hit.
I am concious about safety with it though, and if it was part of the safety briefing, I certainly wouldn't use it

Definitely agree. I have no problems with strobes as long as no one will keel over in a fit from it. So if no one is epileptic then I don't see why not. Adds a new challenge if you're having it used on you and is useful if you happen to use it.
Sadly lots of people buy super powerful lasers or are just stupid and intentionally shine it a people faces. I don't think I've been to a game day yet where the marshal has said "don't shine lasers in peoples eyes" and everyone has actually listened. Now BF3 has the laser feature I'm sure loads of kids will be flashing each other with lasers to "temporarily" blind their mate in game...

They do have to be used sensibly I must admit.

Re: Taclights: Strobe or not?
You just have to make sure you mention that at certain places so as the rules can be modded for the day to not allow strobes.
If no one mentions it I'll still use my strobe, I don't go running down corridors with it running, I use mine in very short bursts, if someone flagged up they had an issue then I wouldn't use it.

Re: Taclights: Strobe or not?
They are useful. Ive got a Sig STL-900 on my PX4 the strobe fuction is effective especially in CQB moving through try to stay 'covered' it does make people pop back into cover and give you an extra second to fire.
Though I have had my fair share of people having a go at me for using it. If the marshells say its ok then its ok!
Also same use as above!

Re: Taclights: Strobe or not?
I posted in this before when rather anoyed at a player who would just turn it on, and leave it on top of some cover. It would stay there the entire time so working around it was nigh impossible. And that was every game, enter big room, encounter strobe, yawn......
I have no quarms people using them to move from cover to cover, or to get a distraction going etc, but leaving it on constantly ..... down right crap IMO.
WARNING. Post may contain traces of sarcasm. If you do not understand this, I pity your existence.

I agree, I'm of the opinion that using the weapons, gear, etc. Try to play 'fair' and use similar tactics to win games. Blatantly adopting techniques that wouldn't work in the real world is a bit gay. The whole point is as close to real as you can get, but that's my opinion.
