using your helmet
19 January, 2011, 01:42
me and 4 friends walking down a trail on sunday then suddenly took bbs from god knows what direction which hit 2 of em so they hurried back to spawn while the rest of us jumped between fallen trees and sand bags as we didnt know where the hell the bbs came from we stayed down there till i thought well this is going know where so i took my helmet stuck it up on the sand bag til it took a shot so we knew which way it came from at that point the 3 of us popped up and fired at what we thought was a suspicious looking branch which in fact we ended up shooting 4 people
what im trying to say is i felt like i kinda cheated but then again i didnt thoughts? or has anyone else done the same thing?

Re: using your helmet
Its an old trick in the book to put your helmet on the end of you gun (maybe even hats) I use them as decoys and thats why I always carry a hat around with me so I can use it for that reason.
But you haft to watch out though some people may think its cheating as they may think its you and thinking your not taking your hits.

Re: using your helmet
thats where the saying use your loaf came from. Back in the day of redcoats the would stick bread ration on their bayonet with their hat on.

I think it's perfectly fine as long as they know it's not a person in the end.
So there is no confusion.

Re: using your helmet
Ive done it before, is a brilliant tactic, and at end of game will find them and mention it, but you can tend to hear them muttering off. as many sites have the "weapon hit" rule
1. if your weapon is stuck out of cover and is hit that not a "HIT"
2. if your out of cover and your gun is covering your body and its hit then your hit.
so with helmets
1. if its stuck out with rifle or stick it not a hit as is not covering you
2. but if your wearing it as a hat its a hit.
simple enough i thought

Re: using your helmet
I have to confess I have performed a perfect flanking manouvre on a sniper before to find it was actually his ghillie arranged over a log with his rifle arranged by it...
... he was behind me, with a socom.
If it works for you, and they know in the end it's a dummy, knock yourself out

Re: using your helmet
I have used the helmet trick a few times myself and its always a joy to watch bbs hitting it from a safe distance. at the end of the day its a legitimate tactic to employ that is still in daily use to this day in real lie situations. i do agree that if theres a gun hit rule and your using a weapon to hoist it then the gun has to be counted it though.
at Roe they have some cammoed up dummies scattered about the site--christ nows how much ammo i have shot at them thinking its a player! lol. all adds to the fun factor imho

Re: using your helmet
An old trick the british army did was you put your daily ration of loaf of bread on the end of your rifle and put your hat on it. you then stick it round the corner to see if the french shot at it. First version ive ever heard of it in airoft though. sounds like a fun gag
Talking to yourself is fine, its when you talk to yourself, argue with yourself and then refuse to talk to yourself that you need to worry.

Re: using your helmet

good idea, i saw something once on another site about a guy who used his helmet as a riot shield and gunned 4 guys down running right into em with a helmet and a glock,
