am attempting my first barrel change and new hop fitting next wk but seem to remember reading somewhere that you need to slacken the hop off completly prior to removal - can anyone confirm this and will it do any damage if i dont?? btw rifle is a tm g3

Re: "loosening off" hop up
turn the hop off all the way to prevent damage, double check by looking down the barrel. I'm not sure what hop system the g3 uses but there is usually an arm or dial that can come off which will allow you to remove/replace the nub

Yes, turn it all the way off.
Rather than causing damage typically I find that it means the nub falls out more readily. I've also found with M4's they tend to be very tight and removal usually results in the rubber staying in the chamber and getting torn if you aren't careful.
