  • Trouble with MP5...

I own myself a ICS MP5A4 and just recently (as in, a couple of skirmishes now) it's been playing up. It has a tendency to double feed quite a bit (not all the time, but enough to make it annoying) and drop short because of this. It also seems to be not feeding quite a bit (remedied quickly by reinserting the magazine, but this doesn't always work).

Being the noob that I am, I'm using the ICS Hi-caps and I'm wondering if its them misfeeding or if it's the hop rubber or something else. Also, the gun is completely stock (came pre upgraded with a 1J spring from Z1), so there's been no tampering or buggering around with it as far as internals go.

Cheers in advance for any help, if you need me give any more information to help then please ask.

have you tried it with another mag ?
may well be something else but worth finding out if its a mag issue before you start tinkering with it.
    sorry its a bit vague.

Make sure that the mag is right the way into the mag well. Give it a good old nudge, the ICS can be a bit tight and not go all the way in. You're looking for the mag well leaver notch on the side to go back flush.

The mags are all the way in, still getting the problem.

Try giving the mag a quick squirt of silicone. Not enough that the BB's are all coated, but enough to ensure that it's feeding smoothly. People assume that this sort of problem is always due to the hop, but sometimes the mag isn't loading the BB's consistently due to sticking.

Already sprayed a bit of silicone up the mags and the mag well and cleaned the barrel. No joy

As swill said, have you tried it with different mags?
Also, are you winding the wheel until it clicks?

Haven't had the chance to try it with different mags yet, but I am winding them till they click. Will try and get my hands on some different mags to try with.

                  Re: Trouble with MP5...

i had the same problem mate with both the ics and tm high and mid caps but they all seem to misfeed, the thing is that the ics mag well are wider than those of other makes meaning the mags slip down, the way to sort is to put a strip or two of electricity tape around the top of your mags ensuring that they sit in tighly and dont slip down causing miss feeding.

                  hope that helps,

Haha, yeah, tried that already as well, sorry mate. I'm starting to think I may just have got unlucky and have got a lemon. Still need to try with some other mags (will do soon), but if it doesn't change then I will order myself a new hop rubber (even if that's not the problem it can't do any harm).

Thanks for the help though, it is much appreciated.

                      Re: Trouble with MP5...

could possibly be an issue with the tappet plate/tappet spring or air noozle maybe if the spring has gone it may not be pushing forward enough to stop the mag pushing another bb into the chamber.
its unlikly to be your hop rubber tho.

I'm with Swill, I'd look at the timing of the gears and the condition of the tappet plate.

                          Re: Trouble with MP5...

gear timing is a myth, my classic army b&t mp5 double feeds every few shots.
if the hop rubber is not tight enough (the reduced section that sits in front of the barrel) the bb will feed up the hop tube and slip foward into the chamber and be stopped by the nub ,as this happens a second bb will feed up behind it causing a double feed.
spraying silicone into the hop will make this worse.
if changing the hop rubber doesnt cure this as it didnt on my classic army, run a drill bit up inside the hop tube and make a small dimple in the top of the hop chamber.
the bb will feed from the mag enter the hop chamber but not be pushed foward as the dimple will hold it in place ready for the nozzle to push it foward.
this cured my b&t mp5 ( this is a well known fix for feed issues with metal hops)

Thanks screwdriver, that sounds like a decent plan. Will report back once I've had the time to have a go at it. Reckon you could go into a bit more detail as to where to make the dimple or PM me a link to an article for it, just so I don't cock it up.

                            Cheers.

I disagree but that's a different subject be discussed elsewhere. I do agree re the hopup being incorrectly fitted and definitly something else to be looked at.
