I use 16 awg teflon coated wire and its total outer diameter is thinner than 18awg!!!!. Its the best however is expensive.

If you have only found this after 500+ rounds of single shot, I think you have done well at rebuilding your gear box. Sustained single shot is well known for generating heat especially if you have an AB fet.

If you were finding things very hot after a few shots I would try to find a remidy, shimming, motor, AB fet, LiPo battery too small, the list is huge.......
