    Hi guys,

I'm after some specific connectors so I can rewire my L85, they all look pretty standard, except they're all bent at 90 degrees...

Anyone know where I can pick up a few sets of all 3 types?

    Motor connectors:

    Spade connectors:

    Fuse connectors:

Not sure I fully understand what that is...

Crimp means clamp, right? Sort of.

So that thing clamps wires to connectors? I need the connectors to be as shown otherwise they won't fit the space.

        Re: Connector types

with that unit, u stick the wires into it, then close the flap, which drives a metal splice thru the wire, this clamps the wire in the holder and makes the connection. they are very low profile and easy to use. all you do is stick in the wires, snap the covers down, and insert a fuse... done

ive never seen the spade terminals you have shown, it could be they are from a gutted fuseholder. its either that or get the normal straight spade terminals and bend them to suit

          OH DEAR GOD.

Never use those scotchgrip type connectors, I'd rather swallow a bag of them than use them on anything electrical. Terrible TERRIBLE electrical connection, if you hit the conductor of the wire at all that is.

Google, or ebay- right angle female spade connector.

Solder it on. Crimps are for cowboys. Not the good kind of cowboys.

            Just Re use them.

They are easy enough to open up and if your not sure on how secure the end result will be then solder the wire to the connector too.

get some standard 2.8mm brass spades off ebay (the back end comes flat for you to crimp/solder yourself) and just roll it over at 90 degrees to how your meant to

                Re: Connector types

I've managed to find some 90 degree spade connectors.

Motor connectors and the similar, fuse connectors literally don't exist though. Today I've been to Maplins, Halfords, 3 different model shops and Screwfix and NONE of them, have anything other than the straight ones. None of them even had the 90 degree spade connectors, I managed to find them on Amazon, amazingly. Though I'm not even sure they'll be the right width.

I think for the time being I'm going to stick with the stock wiring and just leave this rewiring project for another time, either when something goes mentally wrong with the current wiring, or if I ever eventually find the right connectors...

Don't bother with the fuse, I was one of the "if you don't use a fuse you will die" brigade, then I decided to scrap mine in my L85 for the slight ROF increase.

If your sensible regarding shielding your wires and possible lockups then you will never need a fuse.

Send it down to me ED I will have it rewired in 20 mins mate using all the old connectors, even the fuse ones if you so wish...lol

                    Re: Connector types

I concur with the "don't bother with a fuse", I don't have one in any of my guns and have no problems, as long as you're sensible.

Personally I'd also scrap the connectors entirely and just solder direct to everything. It makes it a little more of a pain when you do want to dismantle, but I assume you probably don't want to too often and it really is just a couple of seconds touch with an iron to de-solder anyway, plus you get a far better connection.

If you can fit a fuse in your gun, do so. If you get a short (which can happen and you won't notice till it does) you can either damage your motor or battery. If you don't have space for a fuse just be careful and check your wiring periodically.

I wouldn't use a LiPo without a fuse simply due to the dangers of LiPo batteries shorting out and combusting.

Or you can just do a good solid wiring job, layer up heat shrink for stress relief where necessary and inspect the exposed wiring every time you clean the gun (which - it goes without saying - should be after every skirmish). Any non-exposed wiring will be fine if done properly. Never had a fuse in my m4, never seen the point - if you pull the trigger and nothing happens then disconnect the battery straight away and go problem shooting.
