Spring question.

guarder springs have tighter coils at one end, which way round does that go in the gear box? im presuming the tighter coils go to the back

Yup, tight coils around the spring guide.
Its called an irregular pitch, or non linear spring.
I will be at the NAE 27th-30th August and replies to messages may be slow, bear with me!

What difference does it actually make which way round it goes? Surely its a spring and you apply linear force to the end and it compresses - which end you apply force from is neither here nor there surely?
