Gearboxes - how do you know what version they are?
25 December, 2009, 09:28
Hi
Quick question - is there a quick reference guide or rule for determining what version a gearbox is?
Do all M4s use the same gearbox version or is a version 2 CA different to a version 2 gearbox on a dboys.
Slowly but surely I will conquor all this knowledge for this wonderful world of airsoft!
Cheers
Matt

Re: Gearboxes - how do you know what version they are?
a general rule is that each gearbox is made for a specific gun, so higher versions arnt to replace the previous one, but instead simply to fit a type of gun they are trying to make. But usually with each new incarnation the gearbox gets better with time.
The first version 2 was made in 92, the version 7 didnt come out till 04, that makes the version 2 design which is still used today, 12 years older than the m14 gearbox and 17 years old in total. Makes you wonder when you buy that shinny new m4 doesnt it lol
AS marui perfected there designs over the years you see small improvments in the gearbox designs but the main improments came from the hop unit improments, how they fit them into the guns and how they worked with the gearboxs. the p90 and m14 for instance big improments with the gearboxes and hop units over the v2 gearbox models.
