  • Major drop in RoF after rewire.

I just rewired my m4 from handgaurd to a stock tube setup. Only wire i had was some was some really quite thin stuff i had from maplin.
It says on the pack its 16/0.2 wire. All my connections are fine and i was wondering if this was the reason for my decreased RoF. It's went from about 25 rps to 11rps.

the thinner wire cant transfer the current as efficiently as a larger diameter cable (e.g 16awg cable).
energy will be lost in the form of heat as well.
id recommend buying some 16awg cable from ebay, can get it from model shops as well as its used in rc vehicals.

also how good of solderer are you? as a poorly tinted wire could also cause poor current transfer.

sounds like the wire is your issue!

seems like alot of loss for such a short bit of wire.
check to make sure no shorts are happening.
and as others have said its always best to use good wire.

ptfe silver plated copper awg 16 is good stuff.

resistance in an electrical circuit is like a bottleneck in a road. one spot of higher resistance can slow everything down.

ye right but unless the wire a silly amount smaller it wont make much of a change.
amps are measured by the foot for over load and a decrease of that amount is alot.

the same as if you have awg 20 and use awg 14 the wire will be cooler but you wont get much more from the motor.

but unsure on what wire the OP has so can only throw in a guess

I've just looked it up. OP has the metric equivilant of 20 awg, assuming the packaging was correct.

awg 20 should no way drop the rof to 11rpm has to be something else ( connections a little short etc)

                    Eh?

As for the issue, I'm tending to agree with the wiring, possibly a combo of one or two iffy solders (it's really easy to get a dry solder) mixed with the wire itself.

The wire itself (AWG20) is quite thin and more than likely low ampage wire, maplins tends to sell that for PCB making. That would cause the resistance. You might find the RPS will creep up as the wire gets hot.

                      Missed the edit time.

Could also be a mechanical issue. Motor too high.
Or a misreplaced shim causing a gear to be too tight.

As you'd have to take all the gears etc out to do it, I'm gonna go with a ba shim job when it went back together
