    Is there any way to do this without opening the gearbox?

      It can be done with a version 2 for sure. Its a cheats way I use sometimes. Pretty sure Ive done it with a V3 as well.
      It requires a bit of gentle flexing and persuasion though, which if you arent careful could lead to a breakage.
      section 24 of the 1968 Act
      Supplying imitation firearms to minors
      1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
      2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

        and where the little spring ends up would be my worry, if your lucky it will work its way to the mag well. Ive found one in a gear box before lol

          depends on the gearbox/selector plate - G&G ones pop right off if you remove the cut-off spring. You need to remove the safety lever and the ARL from my G&P box to get it off though.
