  • Li Polymer Batteries...

    Hello people of the forum,

I'd like to find out what peoples experiences of these batteries are. I've been reading up and the 'pro's' seem great. Lighter, smaller, more power etc but the 'con' that mentions explosions is a really big bad side!

Does anyone use them? Has anyone had bad experience? Can anyone recommend for or against them?

    Thank you

as long as you balance charge them theyre fine.

That's the big advantage to me, size. I would like to fit a battery in the stock tube on my M4 and Nicads just aint gonna go.

Can you tell me though, an 11.1volt Li Poly battery, is that not going to ruin the gearbox pretty quickly?

I'm looking at several, intellect and firefox are 2 i remember of hand.
I have in fact just done some reading and put my mind more at ease with the concept. I'm thinking a 7.4v might be better for a standard gearbox and spring, though it looks like installing a low voltage alarm will help protect the battery.

Uncertain of internals of the gearbox etc to be honest. I don't expect they would be metal though. It's putting out around 300fps.

I'm currently using a 9.6v NiCad and have no troubles with it

Seriously... They wont explode if they are charged, discharged and maintained properly, just like what you should do with any other Ni-Mh.

Discharged? I've read that they shouldn't be discharged at all, and in fact if their charge falls below 3v they are written off...

Yes, but youre supposed to discharge them to just above that level.
