I don't think it's important at all. Only seen it on "some" models. Doesn't it sit just in front of the hop-up, no in it?

I thought that, then while looking at another forum, found them talking about it being pushed into the hop up so it sits behind the c clip.

If I'm thinking of the same brass ring, then that is very, very wrong. It goes in after the entirhopup unit, and is quite effectively a barrel spacer.
