  • Quietest hight torque motor.

    Bit of a random one but what is the quietest high torque motor on the market. thinking of building a near silent (stealth m4) genrally for just being a sneaky bastard.

    I have a lonex A2 in my custom gearbox m4 and although the gearbox is quiet the motor is the biggest givaway. its very systemaish, not bad on semi but burst/auto is another story.

    any suggestions?

    cheers liam

      Lower ratio gear sets will result in quieter operation. You already have a Lonex A2 in there which has neodymium magnets and stack loads of torque, so startups should be very sharp proving the wiring loom is matched and the battery can provide the dumping current. I wouldn't worry about going for any more torque, the magnets are very tough in those. The only thing higher would be to either drop in a chaoli armature or re-wind your self, but to be honest, you won't see anything significant by comparison in noise, only a reduction in speed.

      Other than this;
      * General Shimming
      * Motor Pinion to bevel gear alignment optimizations (this may include having to re-shim the bevel)
      * Motor grip alignment (when screwed into the gearbox whilst installed in the lower receiver, is it correctly aligned with the base of the shell) Often aftermarket grips interfere with the receiver meaning that that they don't always sit flush with the GB shell when installed in the receiver.
      * Thicker motor grip (SPR style maybe)
      * Sealed grip end cap - many often open for cooling and apparently low noise but they are very much open = more can be heard.
      * Shorter stroke - Less travel distance, less time under load.

        Re: Quietest hight torque motor.

        Fieldcraft should be top of your list before considering any of the above. If you are well hidden it is very unlikely anyone would locate you from a single shot or even multiple if they are looking on the other direction.

        Matched to:
        • Sorbo the cylinder head and piston head
        • Make sure the cylinder is ported so you do not have way to much air. If the bb has left the barrel while the piston is still moving forward it stands to reason without the bb to dampen the noise just an open barrel it will be louder.
        • Lighten the piston
        • Pom piston head
        • If you can pad the motor to the grip, so it can't rattle inside the grip. Most are quite tight but may allow some tape.
        • Wrap the grip in grip tape, added deadening material.
        • If you were making a DMR you could consider a ghillie again adding soft mass outside for absorbing sound.
