Is your trigger of the micro switch variety?

Re: gun shorting and fireing on its own when switched to auto?
Makesure the motor contacts aren't touching metal and arcing, also makesure that the spade connectors to the motor are insulated right to the ends of the connectors.
If the gun is firing on its own and arcing, there is a short out. It just might be somewhere stupid, check wires inside the gearbox, especially where the wires are routed around in side the gearbox. Makesure that no connections around the trigger assembly are touching the gearbox shell. Check the contacts in resting position isn't touching or has any debris creating a connection.
