Yes... It works either way. Extension is just negative compression... You can probably extend an AEG safely with maybe a kilo... If you have some fairly accurate measuring tools, you could use less...
It will work prety much any way, as long as you dont exceed the elastic limit... In terms of compression, thats almost until the spring is solid for an AEG spring.

aye be stretching you could accidently load the spring past its elastic capacity and take it into the plastic deformation stage, lol im a uni engineering student and just completed a paper on the deformation of metals under load. :P
back in the game after 12 months away!

Excelent... go find some springs and test them for me :D ... Write a paper on it and get the university to fund your research by buying you the springs. Which you can then "lose" in an AEG...
As I said... less than a kilo should be fine. Half will be no problem.
