    I've never removed the RIS from an M4 before, would someone mind telling me how exactly...

      Don't worry dave, I managed to get the putty off. Hours and hours of filing... my head still can't stop thinking about filing! :D

        lol then pull the D ring back and it should unclip

          As said, pull back the delta ring and it should come off in two parts. You can then fit some standard handguards on.
