Before buying, I need a battery space measurement... !
3 October, 2013, 11:00
I am approaching buying an A&K M249 MkII and need an accurate measurement of the battery compartment.
Can anyone help with this?
I would ask at Zero One, but they do not have one in stock at the moment, not least before mine arrives!
Also, any input from current or former owners of this make/model as to what I could get to fit would be a bonus, my concerns are not with fire-rate(voltage), but with Capacity(current) and the proposed 8.4v mini is not the ideal setup from a sustained effort point of view.
Comprehensive info eagerly awaited, please do not advise me on how crap mine will be compared to your £1000 ubergat, as I am on a budget.

From what I remember (but it's been a long time since I owed one) I'm sure I could fit a 3600 8.4v in the stock of my Mk2.
That said have you considered going down the lipo route ?

Re: Before buying, I need a battery space measurement... !
I just sent a PM, as I used to own an A&K M60VN, but now I see your post, I dunno if I've offered poor advice? (That wouldn't be a first for me!)
Can a battery not be fitted in a box mag?
I just stuck a 9.6v 3300Mah into the side of the canvas bag on mine, as in this picture:
Never used an M249 so just assumed they would be similar, if not the same layout?
There's a scammer operating openly on this forum. Please be aware of who you're dealing with.

I think you can do a conversion to put a 8.4v mini in the box mag for feeding it ? Although I'm sure some smart arse has managed to find a way to run the weapon from a battery in the box mag
That right there is one sexy gat BAMF

Options are, rewire your A&K to the rear and fit a large battery in the stock (if it isn't rear wired already)
or
go Lipo (which is what I did with my M249 Para)

Re: Before buying, I need a battery space measurement... !
Well a quick call to Z1 has revealed that the battery is housed in the mag-box!
This now gives rise to the question; Why is the substantial stock not used?
I will probably have to go for a 7.4v 2300ma/H LiPo and look later down the line at whether I can use the stock as a battery housing.
Thanks for the input so far.

That sounds a little strange. Where would you put your battery if you decided to ditch the box mag and run STANAG's ?
100% certain my Mk2 was rear wired to the stock.

1; I would never do that! ;-)
2; I hope it is wired to the rear into the stock, but the Z1 comment on the AEG's sales page claims: Battery type 8.4v Mini, so either a small compartment in a large stock or as I suspect, A&K have not changed battery position/wiring harness across their 3 model M249 range.

I suspect if it's the same as the Para and the Mk1 then the battery will be in the foregrip
