A&K MASADA Project - Anyone own one / handled one? I need your help...

Hey everyone,

I'm about to purchase an A&K MASADA for a DMR project.

I'd like to know some information on it, and I also have some questions about what kind of parts are compatible...

How solid would you say it is? Is there anything you have done to reinforce parts of it?

What length inner barrel does it take? I'd like to fit a 509mm inner barrel in it with a longer M4/M16 outer barrel, what length will I need? Will any after-market M4/M16 barrel fit?.

Any other useful information you could give me would be great.

i bought my masada off blazed 99 and im well impressed.
gearbox standard version 2, nozzle ive been told is the same as sr25 (long nozzle).
barrel removes as the real steal and is nothing like a m4, hop is specific to the gun and is of 2 piece design and transparent.
hop is weak and was greatly improved by inserting biro tube inside of origional hop nub to give greater adjustment.
barrel is around 405mm and standard type. as masada barrel is not interchangable with any other on the market the only way to fit a longer liner would be to cover it with a dummy silencer.
as for strength and durability of the body for a clone it is exceptionaly well put together and wont cause any problems.
one gun ill never regret buying.
p.s gearbox quality can be not good with bushes that spin in the shell, and leaky piston seal but even with this mine still gets 320 fps on .25 with very good consitency

If anyone knows any way I could lengthen the outer barrel without a silencer then please let me know...

the only tidy way i can think of is to find some tube thats a tight fit over the existing barrel and use that to extend it, if you but it up to the gas block youll never notice

The JLS Fn2000s come with a small extender peice that screws onto the outer barrel, has a thread at the other end, and effectively adds a few inches onto the outer barrel. I just sold mine with my SPR. Hunt around, I doubt you'll find one but that's all I can think of.

Ya, I've thought of an extension piece, they come with a few different rifles (probably available from retailers as well), but are they flush with the outer barrel? I thought they were usually a little wider?

They don't look natural, I'll say that, unless you can find one that's uniform with the same radius as the Masada's outer barrel. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

No worries TKOS's - I have a feeling after looking at some pictures, that the hand guard may cover up the change in barrel diameter - I'll have to wait and see really.

Destroyer - I'm not great with metal work to be completely honest. I can cut metal down, sand it or make it shiny, but I definitely can't machine (let a lone have something to do so). Good suggestions though, if I come by someone who can, I will definitely try it out.

i have access to a lathe, and the skill required to machine metal.....

if you need it done, dont hesitate to ask!

Yeah I couldn't see it being hard using a lathe to turn it down to the right diameter to be flush with the original. I do have access to lathes btw if you ever need it doing.

I'll definitely give it some thought guys, thanks very much for the offers...

When I get the rifle, I'll see what kind of work an outer barrel would need to fit correctly. I was think of an M14 PDI barrel all the way through, but that would need some work for sure.

Anyway,

I get the MASADA Wednesday night, so I will post up my thoughts on how to do this lengthening then.
