  • BTC Spectre Help!

    Hi All,

To cut a long storey shot, I've got a BTC Spectre installed in my G&P M4, along with a short ratio gear set and a G&P M180 Satan motor. It was working fine up until I went to use it this weekend.

I want to my local game site and started to adjust the hop before the game began and for no obvious reason, when I pulled the trigger, nothing happened. I don't think its a jam in the gear box itself as you can't hear the motor attempting to turn.

I've taken it apart a few times and after putting it back together each time and connecting a battery, it fires a few rounds and then just packs up.

I did have a short circuit about 3 months ago whereby one of the battery cables got caught on the gearbox casing during re-assembly without me knowing which meant that when I went to connect a battery, the Lipo pretty much blew up in my face. It was fine after that (after I re-wired it) and used it for a few games after.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers

The spectre has a programmable fuse. Sounds like that's getting triggered. It's either set too low for your setup or something is wrong somewhere causing it to blow.
I managed to strip and short the battery wires in the stock which caused mine to stop working and the battery to turn into a smoke grenade.

On that notion I replaced the M180 motor with the 'standard' motor the rifle came with and it works perfectly! Sounds like the e. fuse was getting triggered, should I just up the voltage on the 'fet? Thanks btw!

As long as you're sure the motor is installed properly, then yes I would. I would personally set it fairly high, so it doesn't kick in unless something quite bad happens.

Others with more in depth technical knowledge could probably give a better answer though!

No that's about it. The battery is dropping below what the fuse is set to, what's the amperage of your battery?

I was using just standard 7.4v, 2c batteries (Kong is the brand name I think). I do have 11.4v 3c batts but I didn't use them. Think that'll be it? What fuse setting should I put the BTC to then?

What's the mAh and C rating of the batteries?

The C rating multiplied by your mAh gives you your amperage, for example 1700mAh with a C rating of 25 is 42.5 amps, that's what your battery will dish out, now you take into consideration the draw of your motor plus any resistance from wire thickness, quality and type of plugs, shimming, motor height and if your battery has enough amperage to handle all that you are OK,but if your battery is lower or drained or in poor health and/or there's resistance your spectre fuse will trip to protect your battery, you can either reduce the resistance, by using a less powerful motor(which is what you did) use a better battery, wiring or plugs or raise your fuse settings or a combination of that, btw I'm no expert on this and I regard my advice as general layman's terms, good luck
