Tightbore Barrel help
27 May, 2010, 17:11
right basically im thinking of getting a tightbore barrel at some point. i have a TM M4 ris so i know i need a 363mm barrel.
There are 3 i have looked at, just after opinions and any feedback from anyone who has/used them.
Prometheus EG Barrel 363mm - £45 ish
Systema BS 6.04mm barrel - £35
Madbull 6.03 v2 Black Python Barrel 363mm - £35
Thanks

Re: Tightbore Barrel help
Personally, I'd go for the Prometheus, from the tests I've done and read about they're marginally more consistant. If budget's an issue go for the Madbull, it's really good for the money

Re: Tightbore Barrel help
If budget is not something of concern, I'd also be tempted to swing towards the Prommy. Although my recent tests (from swapping out the barrels ONLY) have shown that the Madbull is getting better for some reason.

Re: Tightbore Barrel help
i can easily strech the extra tenner for the Prommy, but is it gonna give me a tenners worth more performance over the other 2? or would it be pretty negligable?

Re: Tightbore Barrel help
Imo having both barrels (prommy and MB) I would take the Madbull v2 myself as I see them as being so close together it just does not warrent the extra 10 quid or so. If you are fiddling around down there I would also advise you to check out the Madbull Ultimate hop chamber, I can't stress how much of an improvement it is over ANY M4 chamber.

well after a quick search i can pick up a madbull ultimate H.U for like £25 so makes sense really. the prommy barrel looks like it might be a bit of a pain to get, everywhere is out of stock and doesnt know when they are getting them in but i can get the madbull barrel and hop up from the same place for £63 all in.
on the madbull hop up though, it looks like the adjustment wheel is on the back of the unit, how does that work for adjusting it? does the adjustment wheel sit in the same place the cogs do on my hop now? i.e in the little opening when you pull the charging handle all the way back?
Does it come assembled as in some of the pictures its in pieces?
How hard is the hop to install? i dont have much experience. i stripped my Mp5 and m1911a1 pistol down completely and they still work lol, and i have had the front end of my M4 apart with no issues.
sorry for all the questions at once lol

Re: Tightbore Barrel help
The adjusting wheel sits flush with the gearbox so it's About 2mm back compared to the normal wheel type hops.

Re: Tightbore Barrel help
The wheel is at the back just like a G36 style, as long as there is nothing covering the flap when it opens it will be fine (as in you open the flap and you see the chrome/bronze of the piston etc) its extremely easy to put together, much more so than the standard M4 hop and there is a detailed video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkh1ljVcU8I
just make sure you have a small bottle of silicon oil as well (you should have for a barrel swap anyway)
Because its a G36 style hop its not prone to slipping out of position like the M4 hop is, also it seems to create a much better air seal inside and the fine tuning of the hop adjustment is a hell of a lot more precise than the standard M4 hop. Just make sure you use you TM nub from your hop unit (tiny cylinder that may fall out your existing hop when you remove the barrel) as the mad bull one that comes with the hop seems too big.
