11.1 Safe on Semi?
25 October, 2016, 12:23
Hi there,
Had my G3 upgraded a while back via Zero-one but forgot to tell them to include a Mosfet as I didn't think I would miss the response of a 11.1...Now I am stuck in the position of do I send the gun back to get a Mosfet wired in which would be around £50 with labour and posting or will it be fine on a 11.1 as it is locked to semi-auto (Running it as a DMR build so its been locked and has a M120 I believe...Puts out about 410FPS on .2s)
Cheers for any comments/Opinions on this

It will be fine for several months, probably up to a year, before you burn through the trigger contacts

But as it is second hand I have no way of knowing how good/bad the contacts are...Once they are ruined is there a way to repair as I thought a Mosfet just prolonged them? (Not a techy so not sure on these things)

If they did go it would be a simple repair, just swap out the contacts for new ones. Parts would be about £10

Re: 11.1 Safe on Semi?
Or, as you're opening it up, fit a MOSFET once they do go?

You can get Mosfets that are "plug & play" Check this link & scroll to the bottom.

Here's a video showing how to change trigger contacts. Might not be the same model as yours but it will give you the general idea.

Not opening it up, I sent it in and it has had the mods done to it already hence why I don't want to re-send it in if I can avoid it
So, the big question: Would you lot commenting currently recommend continuing with running with a 11.1 until the trigger contacts die? As when they do I will be sending it into Zero-one and will get them repaired + Mosfet added (This rifle is only used every now and then skirmishing and occasional plinking...If I had to guess I would say I use about 100 BBs through this on the average week and about 250-300 at a Skirmish which I attend every 2-3 months due to work)

But you will be opening it up once you've burnt your trigger contacts out, so then would be the time to fit a MOSFET

Just buy a mosfet that sits next to your battery. Plug your gun in one end and your battery in the other. Doesn't get much easier.

And doesn't really do much either.
End of the day the gun will be fine for a good while on 11.1v in semi only. It'll last a few minutes in auto.
When the trigger contacts go, get it opened up, and add a mosfet then if you want.
Easy peasy

Re: 11.1 Safe on Semi?
Semi is actually worse than full auto. As the contacts are joining over and over again. Each one arcing. Keep your finger on the trigger and your battery will run out before your contacts will. What's your reasoning that an in-line mosfet does nothing?

Re: 11.1 Safe on Semi?
Probably because they don't replace the trigger contacts, which is exactly what he needs, running a 11.1

I would send it in and get the trigger contacts + Mosfet installed by Zero-one as I am not a techie as I previously mentioned.
Also in response to Captain Dog,
I thought plug in Mosfets didn't protect the contacts? I thought they were just for those wanting burst fire options?

Correct - they don't
Avacado & Burst Wizards do not protect the contacts from arcing
(BW will protect when hard wired but not in plug n play fitting)
some might argue they might reduce it as firing a burst of 3 shots is less wear than a quick 3 x single shot bursts
(but kinda clutching straws or splitting hairs)
on a v3 you could fit a mosfet without having to open up the gearbox
but a v2 G3 you have no real option - well maybe if you walk on water with key hole surgery/soldering on a front wired v2
though think I'd just open the dam thing up that try it - not saying it is impossible but very damn tricky to say the least
I don't think your contacts will melt that quickly on a DMR - mainly coz you are hardly going to go nutz semi spamming through thousands of bb's a day
(especially if you pick your shots and wait for 2 to 3 secs if doing it by the mil-sim book)
If you go through a $hit load of ammo in a day then you are either a really bad shot like me or need to go to spec savers
think you will be ok on 11.1v - don't go too mad on juice say 20c to 25c
yes the contacts may wear quicker - but as been mentioned no biggey - new contacts & new mosfet & maybe service at same time when needed
