  • BBs going wild - KAC PDW

    Hey,

I just received a brand new VFC KAC PDW this morning have have noticed that one bb in every 15-20 goes wildly to the left after about 15 feet. The rest are hitting dead on and I'm rather confused as to why a random one would go so far off. It's happening on both semi and auto.

Anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix this?

    Cheers.

It's caused by the flash hider (normally you get the odd one that goes up rather than left)
If you file the inside slightly it will cure it

The technical term is a flyer, You get these due to several reasons, could be dirt in the barrel (even new guns require a clean as generally they have factory dirt in them)see if that cures it, if not then go to the hop rubber if the BB's aren't clipping the flash hider (Easiest way to find this is to take the flash hider off and fire).

If your still under warranty just do a barrel clean and fire with the flash hider off (A little allen key is needed to take the grub screw out.)

Under no circumstances if it is under warranty open it up, ring the shop, say it is having random flyers and you are not happy, as long as you have had it less than 14 days you are covered by the distance selling regulations.

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it. This is brand new from the factory so there is no way I'm opening anything up. I've taken off the flash hider to try that but no joy. And now they're all over the place, maybe a few accurate shots out of a burst the rest just go wherever they like. My garden is very small and even over the small distance I can see them diverting from the main stream after 10-15 metres or so. I need to find my cleaning rod to give the barrel a clean and see if it's factory debris but I don't want to do anything that might void the warranty.

Should I tell the retailer the RIF has issue immediately?

            Ta.

Yeah, if it's not the flash hider it's something internal. He'll probably suggest giving the barrel a clean which is fair enough. If that doesn't fix it it's his issue.

Re: BBs going wild - KAC PDW

The flash hider on these just unscrews, no grub screw. Make sure there is no debris hiding in the flash hider.

Just a small point, you are using quality BBs?

Check there is no play in the barrel. It should be rock solid. If the final outer barrel extention wobbles at all, you just need to tighten a small grub screw on the bottom of the gas block

And yes , clean the barrel and also make sure you clean the hop. Spay some silicon spray into the hop unit from the magwell, make ure the hop is turned all the way aoff then clean the barrel as usual all the way down to the hop until the cleaning wad is dry. Fire a few bbs to clear whats left

Re: BBs going wild - KAC PDW

In response to the question: Yes, I have been using it with SRC .2g and Blaster .25g.

I've had a real good clean around the flash hider and where it sits around the barrel. The problem seems to have sorted itself out :S

It's now shooting as least as accurately as my TM M4 over that small distance. Going to take it to a friends garden to check it over it's maximum range on friday. And I'll give the barrel and hop a thorough clean at that point too.

Other than that false start I'm totally loving this gun!

Thanks again for the replies chaps, I was starting to panic back there :P
I'll post again if there's any more trouble after I give it another good run on friday.

                  Cheers.

Agreed with Fizzy, flash hider is just a smidgin too tight in the bore so needs to filed down a little

I had the same problem - balls were flying every which way.
Ran a Dremel round the inside of the flash-hider and hey-presto, problem solved.
