Increasing trigger response
14 September, 2010, 13:50
Hi all,
I'm reasonably new to airsoft (about 6months but have just bought a gun) and am fairly technically-minded. I have an ICS m4 which is great but there's a delay of about 0.4-0.6 seconds from initial trigger pull to the bb actually being fired. I've seen YouTube videos of people who've put mosfets and lipolys on their ics m4s and they seem to fire almost instantly.
I'm just looking for some good advice in regards to the best (ie cheapest, simplest, least strain on gearbox) way to decrease the time from trigger pull to a round being fired. I suppose this will inherently introduce an increased ROF? I don't know, I'm new to the game which is why I'm asking!
Thanks in advance :-)

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
Yep, you want a lipo and a MOSFET. Even the most simple/basic/cheapest MOSFET will do. If you're not after a silly RoF and still want auto I'd recommend a 7.4v lipo. If you stick to semi you could run a 11.1v lipo

ASCU (Airsoft Smart Control System).
Cut's out the need for a lipo, and has a 3rd burst function

The ASCU looks fantastic but I don't have that much money to spend!
How much would a MOSFET be and what does it actually do? Can I use a MOSFET with a standard 8.4v mini?

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
Yes you can. But really you need a bit more oomph in the battery department for a quicker trigger response.

Agreed, a 9.6v or a 7.4v lipo

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
Torque up motors help as well. The more torque, the faster it'll get to it's top speed as it were. Combine a very high torque motor, with a high speed gear set, and you could be seeing a much improved trigger response. Of course, a Mosfet and a good rewire will help no end as well, and a high drain battery: A high C rated Li-Pol, or a large celled Ni-MH or Ni-Cad.

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
I ran my 2005 gen ICS M4 on an 11.1v lipo with an Infected active breaking MOSFET and deans. Everything else was stock. Trigger response was good and it sounded a little like a PTW

The ICS motor can take that kind of stress can it? Also, props to Midas for your pm!

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
Mine did for quite a while - and may possibly still be going strong. Bear in mid also, this one one of the first ICS M4s which came with the Turbo 3000 motor - it wasn't new.

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
Start off with:-
Element Ultra Torque motor OR Guarder High Torque Revolution OR G&P M160.
Then get some quality, high torque gear sets (for torque, the bigger the number the better). Those two combined with a 9.6v battery should give you almost instant trigger response.

Re: Increasing trigger responsiveness
Can i add i was recomended by other forum members to go with a mosfet and 11.1v lipo in my semi only gun.
Ive just finished fitting these bits and the improvement was incredible!!! i cant explain just how good it really is
