Gearbox locking up.
28 September, 2010, 18:27
Hi i have just replaced the standard spring on my SRC M4A1 with a Element M120 spring. Now it seems like the motor can not turn the gearbox over. I can move the bottom cog a little then it stops so im wondering is the motor just not powerful enough?

Re: Gearbox locking up.
What battery are you using? You could try a 9.6v to see if that helps

Just a normal 8.4v at the moment

Re: Gearbox locking up.
Try and get hold of a 9.6v to try that, it could get the motor turning. If not and you want to stick with an m120 spring then you would most likely need a high torque motor to pull the spring back

Re: Gearbox locking up.
M120 is a very big spring(for a stock set up) Are you making a DMR? less of a locking up issue and more of a not enough power for the power issue. Still interested in why you want a M120 in a M4.

+1 to this, would still say get a 9.6v so you don't loose that much performance(If you need a M100 I have one you could buy cheap).

Re: Gearbox locking up.
Right just put the standard spring in and it is still the same so the gears must be sticking somewhere?????????

Re: Gearbox locking up.
Well either you have knackered the motor trying to turn a rather hench spring, or something else is the matter!
You done much gearbox work before?

Re: Gearbox locking up.
The motor is still turning fine. I placed the gears in the gearbox without the spring and piston and it all turns fine.

Well the good news is it works. Bad news is i have worn the teeth down on the pinion gear but have got a new motor coming soon anyway.

Re: Gearbox locking up.
sounds like you had the motor height in too tight or the bevel shimmed two low....
It can cause it to act like the gears are stuck.
common mistake.

Re: Gearbox locking up.
Well gone from bad to worse with this. Now have the whole gearbox in bits and every time i put it back together it locks up. It has plastic bushings in which are worn so thinking new metal bushing and new shims might be the way forward. Anything else i should add to the list?
