Vfc 416d

I bought a VFC HK416D back in 2015, sold it off a few years later to one of my former team mates who had to have the gearbox & motor replaced 3 months after buying it from me, I recently bought it back as I plan to return to airsoft soon, but I charged the battery up today, plugged it into the rifle & nothing, the guy said it ran fine for him after the new parts were installed but I've noticed that even in "safe" the trigger still engaged & I wonder if the gearbox he bought is just not suitable for the rifle. I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar issue & if it's possible that VFC only work with certain gearboxes. Thanks for any help towards this
