MAG mid caps
26 October, 2010, 19:00
evening all,
just a quick question really,
had a box set of M4 midcap mags by MAG delivered today, and whilst taking them apart to clean and lebricate them, i found a 3inch long bit of round plastic in the bottom of each mag,
my question is, is this the way they should be? seemed to me that they where compressing the spring for some reason and arnt needed for the mags to work
so thinking i should remove them, but wanted advice before slinging them in the bin,m
cheers in advance chaps

Re: MAG mid caps
Not sure then, I've only worked on the metal ones.
I'd suggest they spring guides, so want to be in there.
No point removing something doing no harm!

Just had a look at that myself.
I personaly wont be taking them out, but saying that you may well get a 20 or so BB rise in the mag without it but will it affect the feeding either short term or longterm?
Edit
Its not a guide as it doesnt go through the spring.

Re: MAG mid caps
no worries, ill put them back in then!
just seemed a bit weird as they seem like a bit of an after thought, theyre about the size of a lolly stick but a bit thicker and really roughley cut,
ill give em a go and see what happens!
cheers for the advice

Try one mag with it in and one without.
I have the same mags so would be interested in how it works without.
It does look like a bit of a bodge never seen that before myself.

Re: MAG mid caps
just tested them both, 1 with the plastic bit, the other without,
yep, you get more bbs in the mag without, and it does seem to feed a bit better. but then that may be because i took the springs out and stretched them slightly ,
thinking that the "lolly sticks" may be to keep the springs compressed whilst the mags are in storage etc so they dont lose there springyness (word?)
shall be taking mine out forethwith and trying em out tomorrow night at a skirmish, good times!

Re: MAG mid caps
I've taken the plastic sticks out of all of mine and its not caused a problem after ~ 9 months. Not really sure why they are there as the spring doesn't lack the length to empty the whole mag and like you say, you can get more bb's in without them.

Re: MAG mid caps
Just got back from a good night down epsom cqb site and am happy to report that the mags worked with no issues
had a few miss feeds but i think that that was more down to the battleaxe magwell converter on my g36, but literally talking 2 blank shots per 100rd mags,
no worries with them emptying the mag in full auto either!
good times!

If they are the same as ours theres a little access hole on the bottom of the mag
Just turn it around and flick it out.
I had to use a pointed nose pair of pliers to get mine out.
